Headings are almost always magnetic, not true. Only in areas near the magnetic north pole will true headings be used. . The stupid way I remembered this in private pilot ground school eons ago was "the heading ATC is telling me isn't true". Worked like a charm to remember if they used tru...
Jump to postI'm sure our resident GOP supporters will be heads in the sand with this thread. Just like in the Ohio GOP & transgenders thread. That video that was just shown was disgusting.
Jump to postThey can interview again, go through initial new-hire training (even if they have 10,000 hours on the aircraft they will be flying), go on the bottom of the seniority list and sit reserve, like I had to do when I was a new-hire.
Jump to postThe party of small government and family values once again proving themselves to be the party of clowns. Mind boggling people still vote for them, but their TVs are stuck on Fox News.
Jump to postNo better place in the world than HHI, in my humble opinion.
Jump to postEverybody should be paid from the minute they clock on to the minute they clock out. Not disagreeing, but this isn't how FA's or pilots work, at least in the US. So pilots do the briefing and walkaround on their own time? Think not. It’s included in the hourly rate I guess. Once you check in for a ...
Jump to postI'd buy a ton of TSLA, S&P 500 stocks, BNTX stock, GME stock. Then I'd retire early.
Jump to postERJ-145: we spun #2 first and then #1.
ERJ-175: engine 1, then 2
A-320: engine 1, then 2
B-737: spin number 2, then 1.
4/4/3 refers to RVR required at the touchdown sensor, midpoint sensor and rollout sensor. In this case, 400 feet, 400 feet, and 300 feet of RVR are required. The minimums are on our Jepp CAT II/III ILS approach plates. Runway 28R has a CAT II and CAT III ILS approach and its minimums show an RVR of ...
Jump to postIs Spirit the same, I heard something about them recognizing prior 121 time with a few buddies that went there, or would that just be pay scales not equipment ? I’m not sure I understand the question. There is only one equipment type - narrowbody 320. so everyone is on the same pay scale. Wouldn’t ...
Jump to postSeniority rules everything, I’ve flown with guys who had 5000+ hours on the 737 and bid over to the A320 as captains for their own reasons. 150 hours is roughly two months of flying the airplane, as our schedules (at my airline in US, I won’t speak for anyone else) are 75-90 hours of flying a month....
Jump to postIs it really a success though? SFO right now is the most RJ heavy large station in the network. Still does not have a 737 base. Which is troubling when A320s inevitably go away. The domestic market share by revenue has shrunk from 16% in Q4 2016 (between AS & VX) to 10% in Q3 2021. Bay Are as a...
Jump to postI'd say year of parenting for me. My wife is pregnant with our first (and planning on our only) child. I want my child to get off on the right foot in this goofy world and I want to be the best father possible.
Jump to postI did a transcon today too and it was so annoying listening to 'lets go brandonnnn' followed by a 'meow'. I'm sure I'll hear it again tomorrow on my next transcon
Jump to postFlaps 5 for 95% of takeoffs. Did a flaps 25 out of SNA. On approach, we go flaps 1–>flaps 5–>gear down, flaps 15–>flaps 25—>flaps 30 for a normal landing. Flaps 5 and idle thrust will keep you at about 180 knots when descending on a glide slope. Flaps 30 for 95% of landings. Flaps 15 if it’s really ...
Jump to postIn order of airliners I've flown over the years: ERJ-145: Handled like a sports car. Loved hand flying it. ERJ-175: Handled like a dump truck, felt heavy on the controls, especially compared to the 145. A320: Light on the controls, I enjoyed hand flying it. 737: Heavy on controls but a blast to hand...
Jump to postI'm sitting here watching the Chiefs and Eagles came and having some instant ramen. I know it's not nutritious or healthy, but I like it every now and then. What are some of your favorite junk foods? I like chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cups, cinnamon rolls/donuts. I have a massive sweet too...
Jump to postHere at my airline, we can do immediate turns at 50 feet on the 737. Needed for Juneau on a special downwind departure we are authorized for. Otherwise it's 400 ft for your run of the mill departure, unless specified.
Jump to postThe one I get a lot is (maybe twice a year) FIRE. LAV SMOKE People get surprised when the flight attendant barges in to the lavatory when they don’t answer the flight attendant knocking on the door or ignore the demand to open the door. It’s always during cruise and it’s most alarming when you’re t...
Jump to postiPad only at my carrier. At my first regional, I had to carry three Jepp binders and a flight ops manual. I'd always do the jepp revisions in flight so at least I got paid to do it instead of in a hotel room or crew room after my commute. No more having to run through the terminal to my commute flig...
Jump to postA common nick name for the A320, and maybe other A3xx, is Fifi. Why? I have no clue, but that's what a few of us called it. The 737 is known as the guppy at UAL.
Jump to postI flew the A320 for four years and I’m currently in my 737 type rating class/sims. The 737 overhead is as if someone took a box of switches and just threw them at the overhead and where they landed is where the switch went. The A320 was much easier to look at, same for the E175 which was a simpler o...
Jump to postI haven't flown the 145 in over 6 years and the 175 in 4 years, but if I remember correctly on the 145, we'd climb at 290 IAS and transition to 0.65M until reaching our cruise altitude. Transition to mach is usually in the high 20s. Again, take this with a grain of salt, it's been a while. Interest...

Jump to postNot at all. I'll just click off the A/P, maybe the autothrust, and fly the airplane as if I was in a big Cessna 172. Nothing to be nervous about and if they are, they shouldn't be flying professionally.
Jump to postThis is slightly off-topic, but on the bus if you put the flap lever in 1, the actual position of the flaps and slats depends on if the airplane thinks you're taking off or landing? Yes, if you're on the ground and select flaps 1, you'll get slats and flaps. In the air, you'll get slats only when y...
Jump to postWhy can't scales be installed at the gates? I would think that a pad for each gear strut would be well within the technological limitations in 2021. Then, everything can be based on an exact weight. That or a scale that each passenger walks over with their carry on items. They can get the checked b...
Jump to postThis topic makes me think of a discussion here on a.net from maybe 10/15 years ago when, I think it was AA, updated the flap mechanism of their MD-80s to decrease drag. I was surprised that the pilots of the fleet were not aware of the change nor seemed to even noticed it happened. It’s just someth...
Jump to postAll those military airplanes lead me to believe it's Davis Monathan AFB in Tucson, AZ.
Jump to postI've had SSSS two times. Once in BRU and the other in AMS. Both were on non-rev tickets that I booked a day or two prior to the flights. AMS was very quick and the security personnel friendly. In BRU, also a quick and friendly experience. Bags got searched, it took maybe an extra 1-2 minutes.
Jump to postIn three airline interviews, I have never had my GPA brought up. I graduated college with a 3.15 and no one cared, just wanted flight experience, your personality is easy to get along with, etc.
Jump to postMy airline has a small fleet of A321neo with LEAP engines. When the engine is cold, start up takes about a minute. When it's warm, you're looking at 1 minute 40 seconds to start and then a 3 minute warm up period before takeoff. Quick question: is that 3 mins before you can advance the throttle, or...
Jump to postSo far in my aviation career, I've flown ERJ-145, ERJ-175 and now the A320. The 145 was my favorite to hand fly, the short wing made it really responsive. E175 handled like a truck. The A320 is fun to hand fly. I'm moving to the 737 soon so we'll see how that one goes.
Jump to postBack in my regional days, I really enjoyed doing LAX-SAN. We'd be filed for 10,000 feet and got to enjoy nice views of the CA coast. I also enjoyed flying into PWM and doing the harbor visual approach. Basically playing connect the dots with lighthouses and islands before a late turn to runway 29.
Jump to postI enjoy reading your trip reports because they're to the point, no frills, don't ramble on and the pics are good. Thanks for sharing.
