With all the bushfires that occur in Australia, wouldn't it be cost effective to have air tankers permanently posted in and around areas that are prone to bush fires? Are any of the RAAF F-111's being kept in flying status for display/airshow purposes?

And now, forgive my ignorance, but if fitted with extra fuel tanks, could that F-111 being donated to Hawaii be flown there or is the range too great?
