I don't know it is possible to -really- calibrate your monitor without a hardware device that can measure the colors and ambient light accurately. Black and white points might be done with software but color i don't think so.

Just one more remark because you said you will be going in two weeks, so in the middle of the summer: go early in the morning! After 10am, don't bother shooting pictures as all pictures will be ruined by heathaze.

When you shoot RAW, nothing is lost. With RAW, D-lighting can be adjusted in post processing.

What you maybe can do to get the money back is, upgrade the ticket to business or full economy or any other flexible fare. Pay the extra fees but don't use the ticket. You can then return it and get a refund.

The Nikkor 300mm/F4 is a real bargain with excellent quality and can easily be used with the Nikkor 1.4 and 1.7 TC's. It's a prime however.

I scrolled back more than a 1000 pictures and could not find a single action picture taken in bad weather. It's all blue sky, blue sky, blue sky.
