@whiplash: Water is not deep at all in this aerea compared to atlantic or pacific ocean - so defenetely much easier to find something compared to AF447. This was the last shot in the series, so I dont know where she touched down. Comparing to other shots from around that time from 777 avove the threshold, this approach looks exactly the same. Perfect normal, optics playing tricks here, shot was taken at 300mm with 1.2crop.

defenetely .. observationdeck the light is good till around 12:00. You could also walk to P6 take the elevator to the highest floor and walk to the end, there you can take all the lineups for rwy 28. Light good from morning till the end.

I ve tried that combo, the 2x TC does work with the 70-200 2.8 , but the quality is much worser than the 100-400. AF is also very slow ... in other words: This combo doesnt make sense.

I double that, what Florian just said : absolutely no problem to take great shots without vest. I even think that there are better spots outside the airport than being airside, you might miss some sideons on a couple of jets which are allready there .. but thats it. I think you can be lucky in terms...

Why walk the whole way? There is a free shutle bus to the Intercity Hotel in Zeppelinheim. From the Hotel it is a 5 min walk to the spot.
