Re: Rest of New England Aviation - 2024

I always loved the B6 ORH-JFK service because it was perfect for a weekend trip. The flight was competitively priced with Amtrak, parking was cheap, and the time for me to drive there (about 45 minutes) was on par with how long it took me to get to Woburn LEX and take the bus. I hate driving to Manh...

The only "ethical" requests I've upheld are for paying clients that I've worked with. If they hire me to photograph their private jets (and they have), I don't publish those photos elsewhere. Sometimes I use them on my personal portfolio pages, but the identifiers have been edited out of t...

Full Frame is where the weight of the market is going. The a6600 is a perfectly fine camera, but the a7 mark 4 is due pretty soo. The a7III is still good, but its replacement is likely to land around summertime.

Re: Sony RX10 all in one as DSLR replacement?

The RX10 series (particularly the IV) is a fine camera, it can do a lot and has good image quality. Its AF is also excellent, but it has one downside: You can't focus while zooming. The zoom motor is also not the quickest to go from one extreme to the other. But in terms of features, it's largely eq...

Re: Sony A7RIV + Sigma 60-600mm Help

First thing I would do is test the lens against subjects that aren't moving at both near and far distance. Try to take motion blur and subject movement out of the equation. It's still possible to get a mediocre example of a lens, or one that's weaker at different subject distances. Copy to copy vari...

It's entirely possible that you got a bum copy of the lens (it happens even with the spendy ones). What kind of conditions were you dealing with? Don't forget atmosphere plays a lot with very long reach. Do you have any image samples you can share? Does it look like focus problems, or is it issues o...

People here know I'm critical of Canon, but these cameras by and large appear to be the real deal. They took their lumps and responded to criticism in the right way, by making...

Video heads are very different than photo heads.

What's your budget looking like? A light camcorder doesn't need super heavy legs but you can get a lot of tripod that will last for a very long time for $300.

Re: Canon EOS RP: first impressions & some questions

My biggest criticism is how the EVF freezes momentarily while the shutter opens; it's not too much of an issue when you're not holding your finger on the trigger but it makes the 'spray and pray' approach for fast subjects more difficult. I know some mirrorless cameras (Sony) don't suffer from this...

No, there are two modes for continuous AF on the EOS R. One is shooting speed priority AF at 5 fps, then there is accuracy priority AF, at 3 fps. It works with both RF and EF lenses. Most of the Ultrawide 5Ks have densities similar to 1440p monitors, so it shouldn't be too hard to keep in line in terms of what resolution is being expected.
