Re: Philadelphia Aviation Thread - 2019

General question, how many widebody gates does PHL have? Also is there any widebody gates outside of terminal A? I’m not entirely sure about this but I was watching a YouTube video with a US B762 that sure looks like it’s at gate B11. https://youtu.be/wSfR0G89cT0 It's hard to tell from that video. ...

Re: Philadelphia Aviation Thread - 2019

UPS has had the B748 at PHL at least 3 times now. I've seen it on UPS2194 Friday afternoons 2/8, 2/15 and 3/1. It always departs that night back to SDF at 10:15pm (forget the flight number but that's the proposed time for the flight plan). As noted the 2/22 UPS2194 was a B744 but stayed until Sunday...

Re: Philadelphia Aviation Thread - 2019

PHL is definitely not capable of support regular A380s. They're only barely able to handle diversions, and that's only using 27L/9R and parking at the hard stand near de-ice. Three weeks ago EK diverted one of their JFK A380s here and it was a giant cluster.

Re: Multiple aircraft taxing across an active runway at once?

I've had aircraft cross on at least 5 different taxiways all at the same time while I had a departure holding in position, all while I had an arrival landing on the intersecting runway that's parallel to the crossing taxiways. That's called being efficient. And as far as conditional clearances go, t...

Re: Philadelphia route expansion?

Currently I see 9L/27R as 9,500ft, does 1,000 ft make a difference for airliners needing extra runway? Also wasn't 9L/27R supposed to be extended some time in the future, may have been really old news. I'm assuming if the Bos-China flights are payload restricted so would the Nyc-china flights too? ...

Re: Philadelphia route expansion?

The 27L/9R extension to 12,000ft just opened at the end of July. Service to Asia is imminent. What is it about a 12,000ft runway that makes service imminent? Boston only has a 10,000 ft runway and has had no issue attracting flights to Asia. And PHL is only 50-100nm further than BOS to NRT, PEK, an...

Re: Recent PHL departure paths

Unless you're in Essington/Tinicum I highly doubt it would cause any appreciable noise increase since 27R departures are only about 1500 feet farther north than a 27R departure. Sorry but I am going to have to disagree with this. The difference is pretty substantial in Ridley Park. 1500 feet is ove...

Re: OAG Changes 3/4/2018:AA LPBMIA, ORDPSP Out, VVIMIA In; AM ATLMTY Out; AS PDXSTL, SFODEN Out; DL LGACHA, SLCCLE In

Was AA PHL-JFK really meant to be 6x daily? The route was announced recently but it hasn’t actually even started operating yet! I’m thinking it was either a mis file or some move to hold slots. I’m seem to remember when they route was announced it was for 1 daily so I’m not sure where the 6 ever cam...

Generally speaking yes, but not necessarily. If the wind is light we may not bother. As I said it's generally supposed to be reserved for arrival pushes only as working a lot of departures at 27R is more difficult. Depending on the wind we may land 27R and the Liberty Visual 27L approach.

There have been no changes to departures in any way. 27R departures are part of a relatively new operation to land 27L and 17 during southerly winds rather than trying to force landing 35 in a tailwind all the time.

PHL tower is most certainly not 207 ft tall, it's considerably shorter than that. I'd be surprised if we're even 150 ft.

I assume you're using the height of the AA Ramp Control Tower which has absolutely nothing to do with ATC.
