It's not usually a removal of any padding, it's just a harder foam that is supposed to soften over time and have a longer service life. At least that is the way it was explained to me. To be correct, the AS 738 fleet has two configurations:

N546AS, N548AS and N549AS have 16F/144Y with 3 total lavatories (1 forward & 2 aft).

N551AS and newer have 16F/141Y with 4 total lavatories (1 forward & 3 aft).

Usually the notification sign ups for flights are so they call you day of and let you know it's status (on-time, delayed, canceled, gate, etc.).
