Re: New Zealand Aviation Thread - December 2019

That was my understanding this morning when I quickly read it, it's going to be sold as an NZ flight with a tag note showing "Operated By CX". So no different to the 'Hi-Fly Charters'. It's just confusing because the airline operating it on behalf of NZ is also the other party in the alli...

Re: New Zealand Aviation Thread - December 2019

It would depend on what NZ put it under: if CX is the operating carrier, NZ is codeshare then probably no miles. If it is operated by CX for NZ, so NZ is the operating carrier code and CX is codeshare, then you would probably still get miles. NZ opened the AKL-HKG flight for booking very briefly las...

Air NZ will now lease two aircraft off alliance partner Cathay Pacific to cover for grounded 787s. This is more than first thought and very lucky that they have the spare capacity to help out: https://australianaviation.com.au/2019/12/air-new-zealand-leases-two-cathay-pacific-aircraft-as-cover-for-...

Re: New Zealand Aviation Thread - December 2019

There seems to be a huge decline in traffic to HKG due to current situation. Going to HKG costs less than $1200 return for Chinese New Year on NZ, would cost a lot more in previous years. Wondering if the move to 789 for HKG would be “permanent”?

Maybe a little quick getting rid of 772 OKJ. Possible I guess that it wasn't available any longer? I know OKI has gone to another operator so maybe same for OKJ? Regarding HKG it might be suffering from reduced demand going forward due to the protests. So could see it down sized from the 772 to the code 2 789 with 37 less seats per day.. With NRT getting the 772 on a semi permanent basis. No. This is in the schedules since at least early this year way befor...

The Press Release says: These new long-haul aircraft will replace Air New Zealand's fleet of eight 777-200 aircraft, which will be phased out by 2025 . However, slide 79 of the presentation has the 787-10 deliveries as: 1 in FY2023 2 in FY2024 2 in FY2025 1 in FY2026 1 in FY2027 1 in FY2028 So, 'by...

Not “never” for HKG. There were a few 77W to HKG in Nov 2018, and in early Nov 2012 the 77W flew the All Blacks to LHR via HKG.

Re: New Zealand Aviation Thread - September 2018

I have no preference for Airbus or Boeing. I don’t see much chance NZ will order A350. NZ does not have a large fleet, they have to invest quite substantially to support a fleet of 10-15 A350s, it just does not make much sense unless they are offered a very good deal. Whereas if NZ goes for 787-10 a...

Re: New Zealand Aviation Thread - June 2018

IMHO, NZ’s 77E fleet will be replaced by a mixture of existing 77W and additional 789. Whether NZ chooses 777X or A350 will largely depend on which is the most suitable replacement for their 77W. I would expect NZ to take up some 789 options and order a small number of 777X/A350 to free up a few 77W...
