This is interesting. I follow SJC very closely, and there are guys on here who seem to have the inside scoop on things. Nobody had previously said they were going to WN. As for the sixth gate being ground boarding, that was in news articles previously posted (not in this thread). So it will have a ...Jump to post

So AM is back at SJC? They been totally out for over a year, right?
It looks like it. AM will be the 3rd airline on GDL-SJC after Alaska and Volaris it seems.
Be nice if this meant they could restart FRA-SJC with more efficient equipment.Jump to post
OAK - HNL starts 3/17
OAK - OGG - 4/7
SJC - HNL - 5/5
SJC - OGG - 5/26
Seems they aren't ready to announce SAN or SMF routes yet.
SJC numbers out: https://www.sfgate.com/travel/article/Bay-Area-airports-by-the-numbers-13607810.php 14.3 million for the year, expecting to break 15 this year. Passenger count up 14.7% over 2017. OAK at 13.6 million, up 4% and SFO at 43.5 million up 2.6% Growth at SJC will probably continue to be m...Jump to post
Is this going to result in some wide-sweeping legislation that rebuilds the country and rids us of all fossil fuel-consuming machines? Hell no. Anyone who thinks this has any chance of happening any time soon is delusional. Is it a good thing to acknowledge the reality of climate change and set a di...Jump to post

Though Vallas says its not the end... Vallas, reached by phone Friday, was defiant that California Pacific would be back in the air before summer. He said the airline would be announcing new venture capital funding in the coming weeks, would purchase up to six more planes (adding to its fleet of fo...Jump to post
I wonder if they’d had a better outcome if they’d instead diverted to SJC. AM has served SJC and may still do so seasonably. I believe SJC has some mid-day international arrivals so might have had Customs agents available. They ended SJC service just 4 days prior. AM668 actually diverted to SJC the...Jump to post

SJC-RDU is Sunday, not Saturday. https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/article221712890.html RDU officials have long sought nonstop service between the Triangle and Silicon Valley. The Southwest flights, however, will only happen one day a week, on Sundays, and airport officials are still hoping f...Jump to post
PDEW numbers. Only included the "off-season" numbers. There is no doubt there is seasonality in some of these markets. SEA numbers double into the summer months and SFO increases quite a bit as well. DEN and LAS do not show much seasonality. PHL-SFO (area, so includes ONT and SJC) 2016 Q1...Jump to post
Clearly not enough to sustain two carriers on that route [SJC-ORD]. I still don't think that would necessarily dissuade AS from trying it. I can't speek for SJC (except to say that if AS doesn't feel the traffic is there, they won't waste the resources on it) but I will say that even though AS flyi...Jump to post
Whispers I’ve heard, ORD-DAL/SAN/SJC/LAS, with increased frequency to SFO and LAX. They can barely fly 2x per day SFO-ORD, but will open up a bunch of other smaller Western cities to ORD routes? Don’t see this happening. I could see them trying SJC-ORD to attempt to chase UA off it. They were succe...Jump to post
GDL-SJC also shows 1/6/19 as the last date per the Aeromexico website.Jump to post
Problem with SJC/SFO from FAT is there would be almost zero O&D. Even with Bay Area traffic, you don’t save much time flying and save a lot of money driving. People definitely do it (for example, someone from Chicago who has a meeting in Fresno Monday and then San Francisco Tuesday might), but ...Jump to post
I agree FAT is under served. Always thought there could be some opportunities to connect it to the bay area besides UA's chronically delayed SFO service. LAS, HNL, maybe SJC for additional connection opportunities all seem like possibilities. It looks like AA doesn't actually codeshare with AS on FA...Jump to post

What is the purpose? Charters? Overflow parking and loading/unloading? The gate is used at times when gate space at jetbridge gates is maxed out. UA is the only airline that really has used it for their CRJ-700 flights to DEN but any airline that wants to could. It's possible California Pacific cou...Jump to post
I had an idea. Has any thought been given to moving the cargo ramp at the northwest corner of the airport to the northeast (the area closest to 87 and 880) or the southwest corner next to Signature FBO? This could clear the way for remote parking for RON or even an extension of terminal A. The othe...Jump to post
Thanks for the in depth information. Does SJC use assigned gates, flex gates, or a combination? We have preferential and common use gates. FIS gates 15-18 are all common use. Gates 1 and 3 are also currently common use but gate 1 will become preferential on 11/1. Ground boarding gate 7a is also com...Jump to post

AS and WN are using parts of terminal A? So are things seriously maxed out at SJC? AS has been using Gates 13 & 14 since 2017 and WN has been using Gate 12 since July 2018. WN has 12 and 19-26 and AS has 13, 14 and 27-30 (they also often use 17/18 for morning departures) so between them they ha...Jump to post
I have been wondering if one or more airlines approached the airport requesting more space for some specific expansion plans? Operationally right now it's a pain having AS and WN split across terminals. One of the goals of the expansion is to enable them to move all operations back to Terminal B. A...Jump to post
I work in Airport Ops at SJC (see signature). Replying to below: The 5+1 new gates are in addition to the gates added last year (29 and 30). They will not be connected directly. The 5+1 facility will connect to Terminal B with a separate corridor just adjacent to where gates 29/30 connect to the sou...Jump to post
2 temporary gates were added in the last year, and recently it was announced that 4 temporary/interim gates will be added with construction that is supposed to be finished by next June. That leaves planned room for another 4 gates, long term, unless they somehow change that plan. Currently the plan...Jump to post

Had a great time! Thanks to the organizers and Alaska. 7A "faces" the public terminal roadway (east), but it's behind the perimeter wall so you can't really see it from there. It's on the lower level of Terminal A+. The main challenge now seems to be obtaining ADA-compliant boarding ramps. And alas, yes, not up in the northwest anymore but hop...Jump to post
