Yesterday, I had the opportunity of doing some asymmetrics 800ft over Hong Kong in a B707 sim (#3,4 out). Directional control is not much of a problem at 290KIAS & the instructor restored pwr on #3,4 soon as I picked up the dead wing. Another question I have; what type of "run up" checks are done on...Jump to post
paperwork, an evil necessity. from a maintenance point of view, where do i start?! heres a run down on how it is in our organisation: AIRCREW will document from all flight sectors: flight number, pax/cargo manifest, flight hours, landings (inc. touch'n'goes), engine cycles (wet/dry motor overs not i...Jump to post
thanx everyone for all your informative feedback. having only a student pilot licence, all my 4 engine experience came from flying the C130J,B707 simulators i have at work. whenever i get a chance for a play, i usually make a point of practicing assymetrics with an outboard engine out or even 1 outb...Jump to post
a question i have never got around to asking our pilots, during the last 4 years i've been maintaining 4 engined aircraft... i am aware that during your aircraft conversion course (type rating), you are trained to handle the aircraft in most abnormal flight conditions. with how many engines inoperat...Jump to post
777. 1 aircraft i've yet to fly on, a big fan of this flying technology marvel. i also really like the MD11, they look awsome & unique in it's own right. i wont argue; the 777 is a better jet for carting around self-loading freight, but lets be honest - the 777 doesn't look much mre than a 767 on a ...Jump to post
seeing as i have never dealt with turbofans, could someone fill me in on interpreting the eng indications (what reading to look for in order to achieve a desired thrust setting). having horsepower figures on a turboprop seems easy - "4700HP". but what exactly is "1.6EPR" telling the person looking @...Jump to post

A subject I've discussed with my collegues many times. It would be great if this existed in Australia, not sure if Qantas, Virginblue, Jetstar has such provision. We have an in-house "engine runner's" qualification, but the airforce has a "us & them" mentality. "Unless you're a pilot wearing a commi...Jump to post

correct me if i'm wrong, i've not heard of an airframe recently designed that keeps up with the "good ol" B747. i have been told the B707 has a higher cruz speed, by about mach0.02-0.04. it'll be interesting to see if the A380s will have a cruz figure that rivals a B747? the A340s dont keep up with ...Jump to post

Nick Any outward opening doors in pressurised aircraft are held closed by locks, hinges, & associated safety mechanisms. Fly by wire also applies to engines (mostly engines with Full Authority Digital Electronic Control-FADEC). Our C130Js (Hercs) have "fly by wire" engines only.
