Re: United Airlines and the 747-200

I was reading planespotters.net that United operated a fleet of 10 747-200s from 1987 until 2000. According to planespotters.net two of the planes were delivered in 1987 while the others were delivered in 1991. The 1987 deliveries were new planes while the 1991 deliveries were used planes. Does any...

Re: For Pilots. What is Your Most Enjoyable Commercial Aircraft to Fly?

Flying an early swept wing plane was a great “school of hard knocks” degree. The “Hun” taught me more in 500 hours than thousands on other types. Nothing like being suddenly upside down in a scissors, wondering where the other guy went. Having later been involved in flying bizjets, it’s amazing how...

Re: CX Working With Airbus on Single-Pilot System for A350 With 2025 EIS

The only recent accident I can think of that occurred due to a mechanical/technical issue at cruise is AF447. Having two (and eventually 3) pilots in the cockpit didn't save that plane. We often look to outcomes which are unfavorable when discussing changes like this and forget about the good outco...

I'm not sure I take your point. In any event, that part of my post you didn't quote -- the part about single pilot cruise needing to be accepted as being as reliable as single engine operation for 5 1/2 hours -- was my point. I'm not saying that can be done. But it seems to me to be a good benchmar...

That is precisely my point - even though those were multiple pilot flights, a determined person was still able to deliberately crash the plane. Even in a situation where the...
