Re: United to expand premium 767s to Switzerland

What is exactly a premium 767 of all things? That's one old plane... Its a 767 with new Polaris seating plus premium economy and limited economy class seats. Seats about 160 passengers. UA wouldn't make this type of investment unless their plans are to keep these planes around quite a while, 5 year...

I don't know why this is a debate. A life saved is minuscule in cost compared to what these pens cost. You hardly need to be trained to use one. They should be as ubiquitous as AEDs.

Why didn't those airlines put GE90's on older 777 models? I've noticed that among operators of variants excluding the -300ER and the -200LR (Since the GE90 is the only option for those two), the Trent 700 seems to be most popular, while PW4000 hasn't really been able to compete with GE and RR. The equipment for flying routes over places like Northwestern China isn't that specialised btw. You just need to provide O2 to the pax for 45 minutes (IIRC) instead of the normal 15-20. So most, if not all, A350 or 777 I suppose could do it. Normally the main actual equipment difference is bottled ...

AFAIK there is a route (B215) from PRC that goes Urumqi-Shache-Gilgit and from there you could continue over Jammu and Kashmir down to DEL or BOM, but it doesn't help much that US flights are coming from the west or northwest.
