Growing up in HS and College I had a TI-89 since that was the highest level calc allowed on the SAT/ACT. I agree that TI has an unfair monopoly on these products. $130+ for a calc that has the power of less than a 80386 processor? Please.

These A359 numbers are too low by a lot. A 275t A359 should be able to fly 8,100nm at about 31 tonnes payload. 277t and 280t should fly further at that payload.

Ok then the NH A380s just incorporated the straight aft stairs from the A380plus concept.

I don't recall there being a Taiwanese issue with traffic rights on the KUL- TPE sector for a flight continuing to YVR... Sounds odd. Also I thought DXB was an open traffic rights port, so how did MH lose rights to EWR? Or was it a case the point to point DXB-NYC traffic wasn't there for 2 airlines...

I've long had a concept for a three-class narrowbody airliner with J at 2-2, W at 2-3, and Y at 3-3. Obviously this would be a plane that flies longer international routes. 2-3 in W differentiates the premium economy class a bit more while offering them more than a few inches of leg room.

According to moyangmm , B747-400 wouldn't be able to make LAX-SYD either as it's manufacturer full passenger stated range was ~7,270nmi. QF used 747-400ER, which has more range than regular 747-400. Boeing's range is now very conservative (after they adjusted the range). You can see 787 outperforms...

I hear you re the potential overspeed BUT stick shakers are going off. Airspeed indicators are unreliable. Alarms everywhere and it takes balls then at 1,000 ft to reduce the throttle! It might have been the right action but.... From the FDR traces it looks like they were 7-8000' above ground level...
