This isn't anything new. It's always been an issue on ULH flights. There is a reason these flights have extra crew, and crew rest facilities onboard. The customers seem to prefer the option of a single ULH flight versus a connection or tech stop or these flights wouldn't exist.

I looked on Flightaware back to mid morning and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Could it have been a C-17? That's the only t-tail quad with winglets that comes to mind. And it wouldn't show on flightaware either.

There are most likely older 752's in the AA fleet that will be retired before these that are parked. It makes sense to me to time out the older frames during the low traffic period and save the hours/cycles on the newer aircraft.
