Re: Which is cheapest vehicle engine which can used for making single seater aircraft?

I second RetiredWeasel's advise, join the EAA. Generally speaking, application of automotive powerplants in aviation have not worked very well. Aircraft powerplant requirements are very different from those of an automobile, thus their design requirements differ. Automobile engines don't normally s...

Ok everyone is talking about their personal experiences in particular situations, and perception is sometimes guided by bias. So let's look at it purely from a numbers standpoint. A350-1000: MTOW- 696,661lb and 194,000lb Total Thrust = 0.278 T/W B787-10: MTOW- 560,000lb and 152,000lb Total Thrust =...

Re: Punchiest airliners

This guy asked for the punchiest airliners right? Well you can't make those judgements based on passenger experience and THAT is why I put those raw numbers of the T/W ratio at MTOW. You can't argue with physics. I said nothing of takeoff and if you go back to my first post I said as much. I am stri...

You don’t need physics, you need aircraft type, performance manual or checklists. GF I think 280 kias is the appropriate amount of kias for take off, idk Not if you want the aircraft to remain intact. For a 737 there will NEVER EVER be a circumstance where you need more than 200kts to takeoff (not ...

And besides what everyone else said, if you have the money to become a pilot (or you have the good credit for loans?) then why not invest in a good strong computer, an Oculus Rift headset, some Saitek flight controls and a copy of P3D or X-Plane and do it like the millions of us who for one reason o...

Still, it depends on weight, temp and pressure altitude. T/W is only one, and rarely the primary, determining factor in a take-off. Reduced thrust or crew selection of rated power being one determining. GF You are complicating a simple question (at least he wants a simple answer, and not the usual ...

All the perp's time on flight sims, without any known effort to even get a PPL (think Civil Air Patrol, community college, etc.)... shows long term calculation, probably obsession, with the Q as a coffin. How so? I have been flight simming since FS2002 and I still dont have a license. You think I o...

I would get the a&p license as part of the degree program. It counts as 60 credits towards the degree. Tuition there isn't cheap.....runs 390 a credit hour. I'm having a hard time swallowing that they aren't going to consider my previous experience, and an even harder time swallowing the pay ra...

Nothing can ever replicate the A-4. They had little choice in this. An air show with the f-35 would be quite dull. T6 or some super Tucano would be cool tho. Using simple logic, wouldn't the loss of lift correlate to the amount of span covered by the spoilers? Ergo, if the spoilers are 20% of the length of a straight wing, they will result in something like 20% loss of lift? Tapered wings would be a bit different obviously, but same basic principle, the...
