IIRC, the gun is attached to power cord that is run through a spring loaded coiler. The cord is long enough to permit the gun to be used from any location in the cab and the coiler is mounted in the ceiling. At least that's how it was at the airport where I grew up.

Actually, the fact that rail is so expensive to build now is the fact that many cities made the mistake of allowing the lines to be removed (with the exception of Washington, D.C).
