RE: Theory Question On SR Vs. Mach

Here's my theory: At MMR for a specific weight, the airplane flys at an aerodynamicly-seen optimal angle with as less drag as possible. If you increase speed, the drag increases too, so your speed benefit is NOT proportional to fuelburn. In fact, lets say a 5% bump in speed does not go along with 5%...

RE: Are Fan Blades Really Light?

Are metal blades also hollow or are they massive? How about imbalance? Let's say you have a engine running with the same set of blades for years. I guess dust, water and so on puts some wear to the blades, slightly reducing weight. Now you have to change a single blade and it's brand new from factor...

Hm... If I had to build something like that, I'd put it to the MLG. Simply because that's the part where a drive system could grip best and it's the strongest part in comparison to the NLG. I don't know, but I don't like the idea of a fully loaded 744 being driven by an electrical NLG engine. When a...

RE: Why Slow Down In Turbulence?

If there is such a narrow path to play on, isn't it extremely dangerous in turbulences all the time? I mean, shifting winds can pretty fast cause overspeed or stall speed if changes are significant. Given the small headroom you imply, it sounds quite dangerous all the time because as far as I know A...

Just some general question here... If ground spoilers are fully deployed, is lift reduced as much as there wasn't enough to keep it airborne at any time or is is just severely reduced so that the remaining lift would not be sufficient at slow speeds only? I guess in-air speedbrakes are quite normal ...
