Yes and it sucks. This is year 2 of the construction. New taxiways and being created and eventually all renamed.

No, they just use that area in front of D for overnight and for maintenance. They actually had 2 MD80s parked there yesterday afternoon.

Re: Cleveland Aviation Thread - 2019

UA Ramp tower is officially closed as of Monday (1/14). What was the role of the ramp tower--was this the command center for ramp operations? They controlled all the pushbacks for the C gates and B3, B5, B7. Also, when D was active, all the D gates. You onced pushed, they assigned the aircraft one ...

Re: Cleveland Aviation Thread - 2019

Another idea could be to remove runway 10/28. It is very seldomly used and that real estate could be perfect for a new terminal. It would allow the entire road setup to be completely redesigned as well.

Re: What's Going In CLE - 2018

So there is a rumor that CLE-UA will get some increased (probably temporary) service when ORD starts their expansion project, at this time there is no info how many flights this may involve. Interesting. Let's say UA decides to double CLE to around 100 departures. Do station employees laid off in 2...

Re: What's Going In CLE - 2018

Thanks for runway update. Was at the Stadium on Friday night and saw from my seat that the Burke runway was closed. Must have reopened. Remember there are also parallel runways at BKL (6's/24's), so perhaps one runway was closed for maintenance. http://aeronav.faa.gov/d-tpp/1809/05370ad.pdf#namedde...

Re: What's Going In CLE - 2018

Out of curiousity, do commercial airliners ever need to use runway 10/28? Or is it mostly general aviation? Back when it was busy, it was not uncommon to run a 6/10 operation where both 6R/6L and 10 were used for arrivals during arrival pushes. Runway 10 was rarely used for departures but a 24/28 o...

When oh when is a new terminal going to be part of the civic dialogue, rather than patchwork solutions to the many, many shortcomings of the airport, including but not limited to FIS. They sent a second aircraft to CLE, a 767-200 out of MIA last night, which departed CLE this morning to PUJ as WQ470. The 763 that arrived as WQ471 may still be here. The 762 was parked on A14 overnight and was in Dynamic's "standard" red and white livery (N767DA). I did not see the 763 f...

I recently had the opportunity to walk around the old D concourse. It was ominous, but quite honestly, it was a great experience. Re: What's Going In CLE - 2018

I know this has been talked about. However, the more and more I think about it, the more convinced I am that a new terminal is the answer. Just look IND, MSY, and MCI are very similar to CLE and I think they will all benefit from the new facility. NE Ohio needs an airport to be proud of and of cours...

Several things have changed since that time. First off UA is consistently and hugely profitable, the merger is in the rearview mirror now. Secondly, the tax code has changed pretty dramatically. Third, I think CLE has a better sense of how it will be served by the airlines going forward. I'm confus...

Re: What's Going In CLE - 2018

CLE is not in the same position as CVG and PIT -- both have significantly less debt, which enables them to take on capital projects more readily. In 10-15 years, when CLE's debt is paid down, it'll likely begin to explore replacing its terminal complex (and that will probably include demolishing D)...

Why in the world wasn't Concourse D connected to the main terminal initially anyway? Like who thought it would be a good idea to connect via underground tunnel?
