Flight crews have destination specific language speakers to advise and inform passengers of safety features and service. Can you imagine the logistics of staffing gates with fluent speaking agents to every destination UA serves from EWR for Europe, South and Central America and Asia? Now move that l...Jump to post
MAH4546 - Cruise boardings of almost 900K passengers in 2016 is not a "niche" market for just locals and "driving distance" customers. Flying to/from one of the top-rated airports in the US and access to Central FL points before or after cruise time is a draw for visitors. An air...Jump to post
60 and above here. I have my own device. Even got rid of land line and envelopes and stamps. I have app's on my IPhone, get TSA pre-ck and can pack a rollerboard for 10 days of travel. Don't need pre-board.........quite yet! P.S. I'm flying AS to board a cruise ship for a marathon cruise in Alaska. ...Jump to post
BCN will be a strong market for AA. The cruise season has kicked in and with flights from ORD, JFK, PHL, CLT and MIA there are thousands of cruise passengers every week traveling to BCN. Fares are generally higher than MAD and have heavy loads everyday as cruise passengers do add additional days to ...Jump to post
As someone pointed out, a bit of kindness goes a long way. I go and purchase an inexpensive bag of candy or special cookies (like Key Lime from FL), individually wrapped, and as I board hand it over to a F/A with a smile and a "Be my guest when you can take a break." It is astounding the a...Jump to post
Congratulations United for a milestone of service to Hawaii. Hundreds of thousands of passengers should Thank You for their safe journey to these beautiful islands. I was based in Washington, and flew UA on a IAD-LAX-HNL DC-8/747 routing as a non-rev in the early 70's. I had originally planned to fl...Jump to post
They will clear customs and bag re-check and be out of Terminals E or F to continue on to SEA. They can exit the terminal to meet you as long as they have a boarding pass for the SEA flight to re-clear security. You obviously can only meet them as you have no boarding pass to clear security so they'...Jump to post
And in case you did not see it, there was a post previous to mine about the recent DL weather situation in ATL and why you didn't fly nonstop etc, etc which the moderators have apparently removed for the snarky remarks. My first sentence reference was "tongue in cheek" to that posting to h...Jump to post
I have flown through ATL for years (even in rain) without issues so let's not assume you're traveling on another "meltdown" day with adverse weather of monumental intensity. Weather Channel Drama 101 there....LOL. In fairness, I flown four times in the last year to/from FLL and experienced...Jump to post
If available, the last row/s will be held for crew use to eat, sit and relax, read or just get out of the way of others. On a flight I took last summer PHL-SNN, the crew re-seated me to a forward row when I was assigned the last row in Y. I got a nice 3 seat row to myself in the front cabin and they...Jump to post
There was a direct (like BOAC not nonstop) on QF that operated LHR-JFK-SFO-HNL with 707's.
The QF flight continued on to NAN and SYD. Stopovers permitted in JFK, SFO and HNL for LHR beyond to NAN and SYD psgrs and for JFK originating psgrs continuing to NAN and SYD.
I know because I rode it in 1970.
US did fly the 734 to/from the west coast. I flew a 734 from LAX-CLT in 1998 in row 25. The F/A's felt sorry for us as the seats did not recline in the last row, and poured free booze in us all the way to CLT as they ran out of meals as well.
We had to eat and drink coffee in CLT to drive home.
Window at row 17or window row 16 offer the best view of engines and wing. Row 17 my favorite and no bother from galley to the rear. The lav's are up front so no fellow passenger traffic in this area until F/A's commence cabin service. Private and quiet. And contrary to most public opinion on this si...Jump to post
To correct and clarify my own posting. The 737-300 and 737-400 had that model type added to the tailfin. The 767-200 had the notation "767 - ER". And one other clarification. CCAir flew Shorts 360's from CLT. Henson did not fly 330's out of CLT, but did the Dash 8. Most 330's were out of B...Jump to post
PI also purchased a couple 727-200ADV's from WA, which could fly the transcon segments nonstop. There were no new build 727's every purchased including the -100's. The majority of 737's were new build with the exception of several -200's that were purchased used. The 737-300 were introduced as LR mo...Jump to post
DFWandOMA - Premium economy is a different fare class than purchasing a Y ticket and buying MCE seats. Don't assume something that likely won't happen. Once the seat map is loaded on your flight for the 789 go to AA.com and verify your seat assignments and/or call AA. Your may or may not be automati...Jump to post
I curled up with a glass of wine, and rode along with you. Excellent report. Well written with detail, and pictures were beautiful. A great deal of effort to create such an enjoyable read on a great trip. Next trip we'll rent a car so I can show you around Oahu, snorkel at Hanauma Bay and eat fresh ...Jump to post
I think too that DL over stepped the bounds in making any comment about this issue. You're never more than just an interaction away from a media meltdown over a service issue these days anyway. Don't find much joy in a competitors issue as it will come back to bite you in the butt. This dress code i...Jump to post
I recently flew FLL-PHL on a LAA A321 in row 5 and found the legroom a bit limited with the hard bulkhead panel. At 5'11" I could not stretch my legs beyond knees bent and sat more straight up for almost 3 hours. There are bins directly above the seats so all carryon goes up above w/no floor st...Jump to post
Thank You for a great trip report. Informative, great pictures and well written. I felt I was along on the trip with you. I was shocked that you went to such great effort to secure that seat in row 14 that didn't appear to offer much legroom at all! Your knees are right up on the forward seat and yo...Jump to post
I just flew back from FLL and Spring Break commenced there last weekend. You may have begun your trip already. In my observations we had 10 pre-boards and then 60 A's when they announced family boarding. We were A's having booked and paid for Early Bird months ago. We did observe a man who volunteer...Jump to post
I just flew to FLL, out for first time on a Sky Interior 738 and return on a -700. The extra inch of seat pitch on the 738 was noticeable and the new seats comfortable. The seats on the -700 appear to be a bit tighter fit along with the reduced seat pitch, but still a comfortable ride for 2+ hours. ...Jump to post
You've gotten a ton of good suggestions, but I'd like to add my first choice for spotting. The Embassy Suites SFO Waterfront hotel on Anza Blvd in Burlingame. Free shuttle from airport. JFK has been on the route map of QF since the 60's. It may have been suspended for a period of time in the 80's or so, but I flew a QF 707 from JFK to SFO, HNL and NAN in August 1970, with the aircraft terminating ultimately in SYD or MEL. It originated in LHR. The return routed the same way and inc...Jump to post
In my 40 years at AA, I don't think I've ever seen a situation where all labor groups were happy at the same time. I honestly think that, as a group, the pilots have ever been happy. I don't think AirSouth ever flew a G1 but I know Royale Airlines based in Shreveport did. I flew one from PNS to MSY and remember thinking it was like flying an FH227 with the loud Dart engines. There has been wide-spread coverage of the AA uniform issue for several months. It likely has nothing to do with airplane/cabin environment, but issues with the uniform material. I will buy beer (must be cold!) wine, and a fruit and cheese plate as they're catered rather commonly now on domestic US flights, and a bottle of booze using Duty Free if traveling to Europe to visit friends. I agree somewhat withLAX772LR. Are you looking for a flight experience on a new airline/airplane/via a new city etc? Price? BCN is a seasonal summer market with a heavy concentration of cruise traffic that moves to the Caribbean for winter so the nonstop PHL-BCN has been pulled until Spring 2017.
