Passengers seated in front of me on a US A320. Safety card identified it as a A320 EOW. Wife asked husband what EOW (equipped over water) meant and he responded "East or West. It can fly to Charlotte or San Francisco."

At the point you were boarded, was there an additional empty seat? Did someone else cleared get bumped to Y? I'd want to know if these 2 passengers were in-bound on a delayed flight since I would assume DL would not be obligated to board them in F/BE if they showed up 10 minutes AFTER departure time...
