1. 8 is a lucky number for Asians, to help bring sales from them.

2. 8 represents a double-decker aircraft.

3. To leave room for jets in between the sizes of the A340 and the A380.

Nope since it was removed but I can tell you that there were shots of a Sabena, a TWA Boeing 717 and a Frontier Airlines 737-300/400/500 in flight, as well as a Tradewinds L-1011 landing at an airport in the Caribbean.
