If we had A.net 40 yrs ago when Boeing was developing the 747, we would have seen this same interest placed on it too, probably even more since the 747 was so much larger than anything flown before. While the A380 is big, its not as big of a step up in size as the first 747 was.

I don't know much about this, but since we are throwing around the idea of fission, what about fusion? If we unlocked fusion technology would that be cleaner than traditional nuclear power? Is it something we could do within the next 50 years or so before we run out of oil?

The military using side sticks makes more sense since they are constantly moving that throttle in a dog fight, and thus it helps to have one hand devoted to this, but does it really matter in airliners?
