I'm sure there will be more precise responses to this thread--but I believe that it was a mistake in the design of the wheel wells that was discovered late. It proved to be less costly to have the gear tilt in order to fit than to redesign the gear well. Not 100% sure though.

The fleet plan states the reasons for retirement. Continental is concentrating on streamlining its fleet to three types (737s, 757/767s, and 777s). The MD80s are also older aircraft--its just simple fleet renewal. I like the MD80s as well.

I keep seeing post about Continental being disappointed with their 767s; says who? Nobody has offered up any evidence or sources. Until credible evidence of this is shown-I guess its just opinion.

Actually, I believe the USAF Tanker Order are 767-200s; not sure though. After reading the threads I will back down from my original post--the 767-400 is an exceptional aircraft just not a worthy competitor to the A330s.

What Are You Talking About?

LCC carriers originated in the US, RYANAIR is modelled after Southwest. Jetblue has a fleet of new aircraft, as well as Air Tran, and Southwest is retiring older aircraft. And they all fly to "obscure" places. Remember Southwest pioneered flying for peanuts and friends fly free.
