Except for helping my brother with his business prior, I didn't start working until I was 19 for ATA Leisure Corp., which handled ATA Vacations and many of the ATA charters from select cities at the time. Though I was in the ATA Leisure Corp. division, I was an ATA employee.

I don't think any airline pays the full value of the plane when an order is placed, therefore, if AA feels as though they can afford the plane at delivery time and pay whatever deposits they need too, then they will place an order.

But still, taxiways aren't perfectly smooth- you'll notice cracks (usually filled), uneven, etc. that even the slightest bump/alteration will be felt.
