RE: Winglets- To Be Or Not To Be?

I'm not an aeronautical engineer (just an engineer), but I was told that the reason that some planes have winglets at all was to make a less efficient wing more efficient. Part of the problem that the winglets fix is the air at the tip of the wings going around the side from bottom to top because of...

RE: Just By TWA,its Cheap

TWA carries a lot of baggage with it. For one, its in debt, and loads of it. If US Airways were to buy TWA, they'd be buying that debt also. That's why the stock price is so low. They also have to worry about the old Icahn deal that is a constant drain on TWA's finances. They'd be buying that too. T...

RE: 757s Smokey Engine Start

I've actually noticed that on most airliners. You won't notice it on some from the passenger compartment because of the positioning of the engines on the wing or the direction of the wind, etc. I have seen it on A320s and 767s also. Both on early morning flights, maybe that has something to do with ...

RE: To D L X

Heh! How about that? Delta does in fact service Vienna from Atlanta. However, Continental does not (doesn't even show up in their timetable) and United only does through codeshares. Of course, this makes me wonder if there is enough of a market between the US and Austria. If not, there should be. Of...

RE: US Airways: New International Route

Its all about Europe!! That's where Americans want to fly and that's where the money is. There, and Asia. But since US is an east coast airline at present, that's not going to happen. So, Europe it is. Looking at my map, I'd say these cities in this order as new 330s come online: Amsterdam returning...

RE: Seargent Slawko

okay. I wanted to stay out of this but, I just can't hold it in. US Airways buying non-American* is good for America because it forces Boeing to perform better if it wants to stay in business. If we only bought from the companies in our homeland, then (especially now since there is only one planemak...

RE: US Airways LOI For 717-200s

Could you go more in depth about how the 717 is outperforming expectations? Do you mean they are selling more than Boeing thought they would, or its inflight performance is better than they thought it would be?

Thanks

Re: Planes leaving service sooner nowadays - You mention the MD11s leaving passenger service on Swissair. I'd add that Delta and American are getting rid of their MD11s too. The reason is not that they want newer planes, in this case its because they are unhappy with the MD11. Its range was not as l...

RE: It's Possible!

First notice that United does not have 321s in its fleet either, although it has 320s and 319s. All of which are fine aircraft (although I'm only assuming since I've never been on a 321, but expect to the passenger its no different than a 320) so this isn't an Airbus bash. The 320s from what I have ...
