Airlines don't hedge all their fuel, so they are exposed to increased fuel cost on the fuel that isn't hedged. Also, when the hedge contract is purchased the fuel that is hedged will not be for current market prices, the cost would be to high, so that fuel is partially exposed to the cost increase. ...
