RE: US Airways New Colors

There are at least 2 factory new AWA A320's with the new paint and another 2 older ones currently in the paint shop and 2 more lined up behind them and so on and so on...so you will be seeing more and more aircraft with the new paint shortly. The same aggressive painting program is also in effect fo...

RE: How Is HP/US Airways PHX-HNL Route Doing?

The flights are weight restricted because the aircraft have MTOW problems due to landing gear certification. It is a paperwork problem, not the gear itself and a permanent solution is in the works. When you purchase an aircraft you can buy it with a lower MTOW and save some money. If you later want ...

The weight restriction has to do with the certified max gross weight of the aircraft. Apparently the HP 757's have a lower gross weight landing gear.

There are 2 new A-320's being delivered any day now. I have heard they are going straight to the paint shop and another version of the story is that they are coming painted from the factory. We shall know soon enough. Also supposedly starting in January the re-painting begins in earnest.

RE: United 747 On Tail At SFO

It means...Instead of being able to repair the actual "body" landing gear (the 747 has (2) wing & (2) body landing gear ea.) they will have to be scrapped and replaced with another set of body gear. However, the wing gear can be repaired. Hope that helps.

RE: United 747 On Tail At SFO

The word I heard is $6 million in damage. Body gear may be permanently damaged but wing gear are repairable with gear castings shot and fuselage supposedly broke on production splices. Their was some talk of scrapping the aircraft but that is supposedly no longer an option.

The story I heard is that they pinned the gear, but put the "body" gear pins in the "wrong hole" and then put the gear handle "up" to check for a hydraulic leak (on the pressure side of the gear retraction system). The body gear being unpinned allowed the body gear to begin to retract and the CG was...

GECAS came to Doug Parker and knowing his management of AWA was very successful and because they (GECAS) had too much exposure in USAirways, put this merger together. AWA already has "3" ETOPS certified 757's ready to go but they will need more than that by early next year. US Airways has plenty of 757's but not sure if they are ETOPS certified (the 767's they have are as they presently fly to Europe). AWA can spend money to upgrade the 757's to ETOPS but the jur...

This map is accurate and does not reflect a code share with HA...AWA is/was planning to go to various Hawaiian Islands beginning late this year or early next and now it will be as US Airways.
