LH Possible Launch Customer Of 787-10X

Lufthansa will probably order more a330-300s to replace older a340-300 as their seat count is the same and replace the a330 with 787. Their a340-600 were delivered starting in 2003 and will probably be replaced by 777x or a350.

Is there a big enough market for the Y3 in the near future? The 747-8 and A380 are not selling well right now. The 777-300ER appears to be mostly replacing 747-400s converted to cargo.

I think PW should seize the moment and offer a 75-95K engine for the A350. I think they have a good engine on the A330 and this would be a good moment for them to get back into the widebody game.

RE: Future A340 Orders: Has The End Arrived?

While the A340 is not selling well, the A330 is doing extremely well, especially with the A332. And since there is lot of commonality between the two, I don't think the poor sales of the A340 affect Airbus much. I think once the 787 enters service, Airbus will be struggling on the widebody front for a few years. The 77W has pretty much outclassed the A340 today, similar thing will happen to the A332 when the 787 enters service in 2008.

I am not sure a double stretch is the best way to go. Just look at the 767-400 which didn't sell well. Maybe Boeing should just build a new 300-375 seater to replace the 777 using CFRP etc.

From the specs, this is a 100-120 seater in two classes. This is a market with not much airline interest, where the 737-600,717 and A318 are pitched at. I think Bombardier should target either the 70-100 seat market like Embraer or target the 130-150 seat market and go after Airbus/Boeing.
