RE: Military Fast Mover Near LGB This Morning?

Was there something unusual about the jet flying over? Odd sound? Very low level? Your thread gives the suggestion that something that, perhaps, is part of a black program flew over. Often, when people use the term "fast mover" they're alluding to a plane that's a lot faster than most jet aircraft.

Does anyone want to make a guess as to when all of the C-5As will be fully retired? Is there any likelihood the Air Force will be receiving even more new C-17s to replace the retired A model Galaxies?

Somewhere I saw a picture, on the internet, of a variant of the YF-23 that had side by side seating, very similar to the layout used on the F-111. Maybe it's just me, but from the top it looks like a cross between the F-22 and the SR-71. Not a bad looking airplane though, regardless where the ideas for its development came from.

If the numbers are high enough, I can see the possibility of a 787 tanker/transport being built for the Air Force, though I'm not sure how much redesign will be needed to make that a possibility. Rear third of the fuselage redesigned; new heavy duty cargo floor. Higher powered engines?

I wonder what it would have taken to install later generation engines like those used in the B-1B. Something else to consider: airframe time. Don Logan's book about the F-111 showed many of the Air Force examples having well over 4,000 hours on them. How much would it have cost to provide structural...

Super Hornet has become the jack-of-all-trades; interceptor, strike aircraft and, sadly, the fleets primary air-to-air refueling tanker. There was a time when the thought of a carrier air wing dominated by one aircraft type was totally unthinkable and the same held true for the Air Force. But develo...
