I have always taken the view that India should start at the Deccan Plateau/ Dravidian language line... Without the Hindi belt it would be a much more pleasant place. (I lived in Coimbatore & Hyderabad in the 70's and 80's as my father was working there, so am somewhat biased to Southern India)

77W had 837 total orders, I think no other large twin will break this record. Using the 2000x 777 classic family order book number is meaningless for this discussion. Most of the 77W operators are very happy to replace them with 787s or A350s. So 777X is not the first choice for someone looking for...

When CX flew to KHI, one of the reasons for going via BKK is so that the crew could stay there and fly roundtrip to KHI (so no need to stay overnight) HKG-KHI is too far to do as a round trip for the crew.

Domestic Japan also uses a lot of narrowbodies. Both JAL & ANA have around 50-60 each. It isn't that every flight is a widebody - frequency is important in Japan too...
