German embassy and business traffic alone will not sustain this LH SJO flight. And there are very few connection opportunities (like in PTY). This flight is about tourism, plain and simple. DE is going to be in real trouble at SJO (since it has a SDQ stopover) against LH.

Perhaps they should consider moving the tag to GUA or CTG where there is less competition

I would really hope that CM gets the E2 or the C Series. While I can appreciate the desire ton only have one type of aircraft, they do need something a bit smaller in Capacity to use on their smaller markets. The C Series is perfect.

KL, LH, and AF is SJO is also about connections to the Far East, India and russia. Something IB was not strong at. the Chinese, Japanese, And Indian traffic (tourism and diaspora) should not be underestimated. Many are eager to avoid the visa needed for transit in the USA.

If the business plan for CM in BGI is only about getting tourists to BGI the route would never have been announced. This is about a mix of traffic with Business traffic as it’s backbone.

I have also heard the AV route was not performing so poorly either but the extra 2 hours required to avoid Venezuelan airspace made rendered made it inviable. If the prices are competitive to make PTY a MIA shopping alternative then yes Bajans would give it a go but as it stands the fares from BGI ...

According to the news here in BGI it will be a 2 times a week service operated by the E190 lets see if this route works. It should and it should build. at 2 X weekly it is not very attractive to business travellers. Going to SJO from BGI for example might still be better via MIA. However once shopp...

How many countries does CM have left in the Americas to fly to?
Suriname and some of the smaller Caribbean islands are all I can think of. CM will need some more E190s if it intends to start doing SKB, DOM etc.

One HUGE bug is http://www.southwest.com will not work from overseas IP addresses. So when I book travel to the states I can't book additional flights on Southwest unless I use a VPN to alter my IP address.... just nuts. Fort Lauderdale - Panama / Guatemala City / Belize City / Managua (any of those) would be nice to fill in their gaps in Central America. Granted NK and WN are already on some of those, but then again WN is on FLL-GCM too.

I find it hard to believe VS will start PTY. They are very short on aircraft right now and their focus is on N. America and (to a lesser extent) Caribbean ops that they can fly from LGW. PTY needs to be a LHR destination.

IB had DC9s/319s flying MIA-SAP/PTY/GUA/SJO/SAL and MGA IIRC. They were timed to connect to / from MIA-MAD flights. The change of the intransitive procedures put an end to these flights

As we look back must have been horrible utilization on those aircraft and probably never made any money

CA hypothetical PEK IAH PTY makes no sense. The point of the PTY flight is to avoid US transit restrictions and routing via IAH negates that. Would be better off going via CUN or YVR.

Perhaps though this is a government induced flight. Chinese business ties to the ithmus are growing rapidly.
