I agree 100% with Scooter, over the wing photos show why a lot of us fly, the view. I disagree with your comment that those photos dont bring questions and disscussions regarding the airfoil or other technical questions regarding the wing. Thats not why we take photos! We take them, and look at them...

RE: What Is Pitot Heat?

Pitot heat is exactly what is says, heat for the pitot tube. The pitot tube is a tube that air enters into to gauge airspeed and in some cases vertical speed( I believe in gliders). But turning on pitot heat heats up the tube so that it will not freeze over in icing conditions. If it does freeze ove...

RE: Runways And The ---->'s

LY744,
Those markings are the "touchdown zone" or where the ILS glideslope meets the runway, airlines usually land a ways after that, even though a "perfect" landing would be in the zone. But greasing a landing causes them to land somtimes 1000' after that.

Thirtyecho- we all know that at sometime there was a case where that has happened, its rare, but has happened, but absolutly not in the conditions that the story was set in. There should be no reason why he is landing in the opposite direction. Even in no-wind conditions, ATC will still land aircraft the same direction, they will not, according to the story, have aircraft landing one direction on 36L and taking off the other direction on 36R.

Dispite what you have said, after thinking about it, the reverser malfunction seems the most resonable. I mean, 200-250 kts, one reverser opens, causes A300 to yaw wildly, aerodynamic forces cause vertical stabilizer, engine, maybe other parts, to break off. Eyewitness say that it hit the ground at ...
