RE: Will UAs CDG-SFO Flight Suffer Weight Restrictions

I doubt there will be issues with weight restrictions - especially in the summer if that is when you are traveling. United has the flight blocked at 11:55 - which shouldn't put the aircraft too close to the margin. Consider that Delta's <acronym title="Lagos - Murtala Muhammed (Ikeja) (LOS / DNMM), ...

RE: 1950s Transcontinental Schedules

Highflier- Thanks for the excellent clarifying information. So it seems like once more capable aircraft came on board - namely with the deliveries of the 1649As - TWA really upped the transcon non-stops (and got into the <acronym title="Boston - General Edward Lawrence Logan International (BOS / KBO...

RE: 1950s Transcontinental Schedules

Great info. Yes, the fares I quoted are in 2012 dollars. Thus much more expensive than discounted coach today, but about in line with unrestricted coach - which of course very, very few people pay. <table border="0" align="CENTER" width="95%" class="quote"><tr><td><font size="2" face="ARIAL, Helveti...

RE: 1950s Transcontinental Schedules

The full-fare round trip coach fare was about $1,800, and about $1,300 for the occasional tourist fare, so yes the high prices suppressed demand (those figures are inflation-adjusted). But that doesn't explain why there were so few long flights. In the same schedule, there were 8 New York-Chicago TW...

1950s Transcontinental Schedules

I was just looking at TWA schedules from the 1950s, and I was curious about why there were not more transcontinental non-stops. So for example in January of 1957, TWA only has 3 Westbound coast-to-coast non-stops, flight 83 routed <acronym title="Philadelphia - International (PHL / KPHL), USA - Penn...
