RE: Where Did UA's Domestic Widebody Flying Go?

I really miss the 767s on the Hawaii routes from LAX. The 737 really is a miserable aircraft for a 5 hour flight, even in F, but Y is torture. The 757s seem to be a little bit better, but it is still rough.

RE: DAE Cancels Boeing 747-8F Order

It's nearly 10% of the 747 backlog, or 3 months production. I would think it would force Boeing to drop from 1.75/month to 1.5/month to try and buy time if nothing changes soon. It seems like the 747 basically needs to be priced to match the 777 to have a life left, and I doubt that would be profita...

Is this something different than the "suicide fences" on many airliners today for when the cockpit door is opened, or just mandating their installation rather than the service cart barricade?

RE: LH - No Check In Counters - Since When?

UA's solution works pretty well for 90% of the passengers. The 10% (due to their own limitations or honest problems) have a lot of pain. Used to enjoy going to the 1K check-in counter and have happy people greeting me and helping out with whatever minor issue we might have; now it is about as bad as...

RE: Mom Saw A Strange Plane At ORD Last Night!

Are there any narrowbody nose-loading freighters? I would think that there are many things that a 747 is just too big for (economically) that a converted 737 or 757 would work well for.

RE: Why TSA Gets A Bum Rap?

TSA's biggest problems are in their senior management. The complete waste of taxpayer money on the naked body scanners, the need to seem relevant, etc. They want to take over "safety" of subways and busses too... Sure, there are individual agents that are on a power trip, but the entire apparatus is...

RE: B787 Grounding: Tech/ops Thread Part 2

Interesting solutions. Curious on two things though: -How do they deal with heat rejection from the battery? Cessna has finned heat sinks on their box, but it looks like this will have no conductive heat transfer from the cells to the enclosure thanks to the insulation, and then you have the second ...

RE: FAA Grounds B787 Part 7

The idea of using a Tesla-styled architecture with commodity Li-Ion 18650 cells would work, aside from the fact that you need a brand new BMS system and have to get the system certified. The 18650s are good for 2.2Ah, and you would likely want 10% extra cells, so you would need 8x36 cells for 71Ah. ...
