RE: Reliable Sources For OEW, MEW?

Thanks for responding KarelXWB. To be honest I don't trust the manuals though. They're always low. OEM's don't specify the weights of seats, lavs, etc. so they can fudge these figures without necessarily lying. Do you know, btw, what the respective OEM's at least claim to include in their OEW defini...

Reliable Sources For OEW, MEW?

Hi tech-ers, I'm wondering if anyone can point me to the most reliable sources for OEWs and MEWs, with pertinent parameters for each. As someone who likes to model airplane revisions from a quantitative perspective, finding reliable starting points is key. I know A and B have different definitions o...

RE: The A380NEO Thread

I've posted about this before but I think A should skip the NEO and do a A380X. Optimize the wing for the current fuselage rather than the stretch, harvest weight savings in landing gear, empennage, and engine size as a result of lower MTOW and MOEW. Say the NEO improves by 14% over the CEO. Well th...

Rear-door Jetbridges? Why Not?

I am wondering whether rear door jet bridges have ever been used and, if not, why. It would work by cantilevering over a plane's wing to the rear exit. To give it sufficient stability, a mobile end or "anchor" unit would drive to the rear of the plane, and the jetbridge would attach to this mobile u...

RE: A380neo Becoming A Reality: Leeham Analysis

It would be interesting if someone could post the relative fuel efficiency of A380NEO vs. 777X. Leeham now sees the 777X as being 20% better on per-seat fuel burn than 555-seat A380. Its last analysis saw 26% difference versus a 525-seat A380. Leeham says it gained more info on <acronym title="Royal...

Looks like Airbus is going to have to find new buyers for at least two completed A380's. This story also mentions Hong Kong Airlines' intention to cancel its ten orders. BTW, Astuteman, there's room in this version for a 2025 80m A389X. Going to ultrafan (or later) generation of engines gets you 8,000nm range with wings loaded only slightly more heavily than 77X.

OK I've run my numbers for the A388X again. This time I changed the wing to 77X AR and did a drag/fuel burn buildup relative to the 77X "backwards" from landing to takeoff. On these numbers A388X is up to ~45% better on fuel than A388, 25%...

This is an extremely difficult question to answer, I'm not surprised you've heard crickets so far. Alcoa claims that the benefits of CFRP are only 4% by weight as actually employed on an aircraft. On just the physical properties (strength/weight), I think the difference is around 15%. BUT, that stre...

Tortugamon - Thanks for the response. One problem with the 7-10x, I believe, is that it would be a range-constrained aircraft like 787-10. Note that going from 787-9 to -10 costs 1,500 nmi in range - a similar step for the 777-10x would put it at 6,600. MTOW could be increased but then you're using ...
