Most of this seems reasonable, except for the six extra gates.. The master plan has shown extending the gates attached to the main terminal to the west. Re: United To Expand Into Smaller Cities

Here in Texas UA has given up lots of smaller markets. In many, AA is the only game in town. I said long ago that it was a mistake for UA to abandon the Texas markets served from the Houston hub. UA (and before them Continental) also didn't take the incentives offered by cities in the Midwest to pr...

Re: AI looking to add Toronto and Washington DC

AI's entry into IAD many years ago was bungled. The tag-on didn't really work well; there were snafus related to clearing Customs in NY; and AI didn't really appear to market it all that well. They also were having difficulty getting accepted into Star Alliance. Many people thought it would be a lon...

Re: Virgin America Announces Layoffs if Merger Approved

If it's bad for the workforce, it's usually bad for the consumer. That was highly evident with the bank mergers. And that was before 2008. So, things like automation, lean process improvement, and elimination of redundancies - all of which tend to result in lower costs and lower prices - are bad fo...

Their announced plans for layoffs are reason enough for the regulatory bodies to kill the merger on anti-trust grounds. They have clearly announced that this is an anti-competitive move. Hogwash. DOJ is only interested in whether or not this is anti-competitive for the consumer, not the job market....

AS bought VX to remove a competitor. Read the finer print of the merger prospectus and SEC filings. Why else would AS have overpaid such a huge amount?
