LGA is a crapshoot, but I would say maybe the left side about 2/3 of the time for a great view of Manhattan & Statue of Liberty. But when the plane flies north above the Hudson the view from the right side is breathtaking.Jump to post
Best commercial ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd4gAHmRJWo Yes, I get teary eyed hearing "We're American Airlines, doing what we do best!" I think the British Airways 'faces' is also an astonishingly good ad. I always remember National's "Come on and Fly Me!" jingle. Welc...Jump to post
For me IFE on a flight is a big deal. The funny thing is I rarely sit down to watch TV or a movie at home. But in the air I find it a great opportunity to sit back, relax and catch up on movies I've missed. This is true for me as well. Me three. I don't own a tablet, and don't want the hassle of po...Jump to post
I'm surprised so many in this thread are shocked that British Airways charge for food and drinks on short haul, I'm guessing most are non Europeans as not only was the move well publicised (and criticised) at the time but it's pretty much the standard within Europe these days, free snacks are becom...Jump to post
Those few extra inches of legroom also mean slightly more generous recline. I have never been able to sleep in a regular coach seat which is basically sitting straight up. For me the extra comfort is worth it. Perhaps on the ride home you could stay in regular coach since that's a daytime flight and...Jump to post
I have no technical knowledge of this whatsoever but I have to believe there were masks, it would be too confusing in an emergency for some sort of manual system to be hooked up. I seem to recall in the late 70s/early 80's that United Airlines was able to claim bragging rights for being the largest airline in the free world. during the Soviet regime Russian citizens were not allowed to leave the country And under the communist regime, no airline from the Soviet Union or the ...Jump to post

Well, I think all of our worst fears have been averted. No Eurowhite! They didn't pull a Lufthansa!
I'll say that it's an improvement; a modernized version of Continental's livery (which wasn't bad when it debuted). I still miss rising blue however, I thought that was truly inspired.

I know many despise American's new livery, but I believe their planes stand out from the other legacies, and even from ten miles away, you can't mistake that tail for anything other than American, as in the flag. I like the silvery gray color for the fuselage (again, stands apart from the others) an...Jump to post
Looking at the picture from the video I'm not so sure about a grey belly, there's no grey to be seen. So maybe only a white and blue tail, blue engines, light blue swoop and larger titles. I so hope they keep the gray belly. It adds just a touch of dimension; I would be very disappointed with yet a...Jump to post
I can’t believe they did meal service without carts and instead walked back and forth with trays My last flight on PA was a short hop from JFK to BOS in 1987 on A300 (or A310?). Even then there were no carts for the beverage service, the fight attendants walked around with trays with a variety of s...Jump to post
I'm totally immersed and fascinated by these posts! Thank you for so carefully documenting all of this in such detail. The photo above with the stewardess sitting next to the little boy was in this set of Viewmaster slides that I once had. The set was entirely about Pan Am's 747. So wish I still had...Jump to post
Actually, I love it - so thank you for bringing it to our attention! Really well thought out livery and I love the attention to detail in the branding. I agree with you 100% I believe JetBlue salvaged and displays a light up National Airlines Sun King sign inside their headquarters which was origin...Jump to post
Looking forward to your articles. From what I've seen, Pan Am had the most boring 747 cabins of any airline. I hope you prove me wrong. Are there a few Pan Am cabin pics in the Delta 747 brochure? http://www.deltamuseum.org/docs/site/aircraft-pages/boeing_747_brochure.pdf?sfvrsn=2 Thanks for sharin...Jump to post
I'm really looking forward to this. My first, and sadly only, flight on a Pan Am 747 was in 1972, when I was six. I vividly recall my astonishment at the size of the cabin, but not much more than that so this would be interesting (I remember 707 cabins a bit better for some reason even though I was ...Jump to post
Is your trip all on one ticket? I think then you should be able to check your bags through to your final destination. If that's the case, then the airtrain circles the airport and connects all the terminals. But you will need to go through security again at T1. I'm not aware if DL provides any sort ...Jump to post
. As for the entertainment, what a pain. I was using my phone to connect to the internet and my iPad didn't have the AA app so I couldn't use that. I got out my macbook pro to watch the entertainment. There's really not enough room for a laptop on this plane. And watching a movie won't work on Chro...Jump to post
I still think NYC needs fourth airport that is at least 45min by train from Penn. station something like Kansai airport. In the NYC market, ISP, SWF, and HPN all already have commercial passenger air service in addition to LGA, JFK, and EWR. While ISP doesn't currently have direct rail access to th...Jump to post
So, that seat chart says the main deck lounge is first class, but Jon Proctor (a DCS for TWA) says it was a coach lounge. This of course makes more sense as the upper deck was technically the first class lounge.. Here is a pic of the coach lounge: http://jonproctor.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/74...Jump to post
JAL's branding is classic, elegant and simple. They don't need to change a thing. I agree with you. The resurrection of the logo ("Tsuru") was a very wise decision and enabled JAL to go back to their roots. The livery might be "too simple". JAL-planes look like aircraft from the...Jump to post
Missing IFE. Can't wait for the Doug Parker era to end. I agree... [ I Love Love LOVE that subtle blue ombre' effect along the top of the fuselage. I think it's elegant, fresh, new! Very nice idea. It would be so distinctive. Sadly, the marketing people at UA didn't come up with it, and I'm sure others will say that it's more costly than tedious Eurowhite. I imagi...Jump to post

One of the most interesting liveries that was NWA before the Delta merger. It was simple yet sophisticated with the red tail. With better metallic paint that doesn't fade after six months of high altitude UV rays, it would be a good time for UA to adapt a simple yet contemporary design with the glo...Jump to post

The other thing to consider is, well, LGA. Arriving in an all J class aircraft from overseas into LGA is like rolling into a slum in a Bentley. If you look at an IFE from a cost-benefit analysis, it makes perfectly sound sense why IFE on domestic product is going away on UA and AA. Reminds me of an Aeron chair. Something like that would be better than the current shells they use for short hops (<6 hours). I am not sure about sitting in Aeron for more than that. AA inherited US's TATL gateway at PHL and has been a focus for AA for some time, though with some adjustments. From what I understand, it's really hard to polish bare metal that's been stripped of paint so that it looks good (remember that Air Canada 767?), so it doesn't surprise me at all that they simply painted the underbody grey. The metallic paint is actually pretty nice and the font and logo, though not very imaginative, work. The tail is definitely a problem.
