RE: 737-MAX Lineup Nomenclature

The aircraft will still have customer codes....

So for United, the aircraft will be 737-922 MAX, or 737-922MAX. (similar to an "ER" designation after the model)

The whole concept of naming models with a -single digit seems to be something lingering from McDonnell Douglas.

On a separate note, what is EK doing with all of its 777-300ERs? They are still taking delivery of new ones, and yet 777-300ER routes are decreasing.

This is 750,000 pound vs. 775,000 pound MTOW (775,000 is the max MTOW for the 777). The aircraft is fundamentally the same, other than the crew rests. The MTOW rating can be changed upward (up to the max) or downward at any point in the aircraft's life.

There were more DC-10s made, hence there are more of them in the desert.

And, the demand for second hand MD-11 parts is greater than DC-10 parts.

That is one thing that I don't understand.... why more 737s? Why not A330s or 767s or 787s in the same configuration?

All of those narrow-bodies are crowding the airspace and airports. China is at a point where it should be shifting towards domestic wide-bodies.
