WN isn’t increasing flights at MHT, but they are increasing seats. The -800s have been exceeding the -700s for awhile now.

I was wondering about DL. I can understand why aircraft like the 777 and A350 don't come through Boston. And I also understand that on at least one route the A330-200 will be used. But why is the 767-400 a no-show on the BOS roster? Is it a 'wing-thing' that would cause the plane to block other gates?

Little-noticed upgrade for Southwest at MHT is way more 737-800s than -700s these days. So while the number of flights isn’t going up, the number of seats is.

Boston, which had been A359 since LH debuted it, will go back to the A346 next summer. As near as I can tell, the capacity of each is nearly the same, but the A346 has four classes.

We're quick to suggest that AA and UA are nothing like they were. But that's the Boston view. Go to PHL, AA is all you see. Go to EWR and IAH, UA is all you see. I don't necessarily think that AA and UA are 'shrinking' in Boston (in the aggregate); it's just that others are growing up around them.

The airline business is funny and fickle. I really don't believe the name change to 'Manchester-Boston-Regional' had anything to do with its backward slide, nor do I think a new name will help it revive. Had to chuckle at The Boston Globe. Leading off the big article on this expansion was a huge photo showing an empty and forlorn-looking ticketing area with not a single soul in line, nor any workers behind the counters. Of ALL the pictures they could have used... :lol:

Yes, but if B6 ends up being a takeover target some will equate that to being 'chased out of Boston.' Problem is, I can't see another airline that would want such a big presence in Boston as B6 represents now.

Plus, Europe out of BOS on B6 now looks laughable with Delta covering the map pretty well. By the time B6 orders the planes, then gets the planes, then goes through the ETOPS rigmarole, the TATL landscape (not to mention the global economy) will look a lot different. There's probably some grumbling...

IMO this pushes B6 closer to being acquired. Also, the TATL fruit will all be picked over by the time they get around to ordering planes, never mind going through ETOPS and then launching service.

How close to 'being done' at BOS are they? Halfway there? 75% there? B6 needs either more gates or better utilization of the ones they have (which abysmal OTP doesn't help improve). I think because Logan's footprint is so constrained it'll be more the latter than the former. I travel a modest amount...

In bringing the A380 to Boston every day next summer, they also are doing away with the 744s: the other three flights are all 777s. So I’m not sure how that nets out for them in terms of seats, and whether that prompted the DL move.

This time of year there are ‘sweep’ flights that intend to go from (say) MHT-MEM But Get ‘diverted’ to another city to pick up stranded freight. A plane might have gone tech at EWR and dispatch told the MHT flight to drop in to get it.

The QR 77W was supposed to be an interim switch at BOS, lasting only this month and next. But if you trust their own on-line timetable, it continues well into next summer. So one might infer that forward-looking bookings are good for them, which might portend a response from EK.

RAM is coming to BOS? A cool new tail at Logan to be sure, but a head-scratcher at the same time. But the 'little' 787-8 might enable them to make a go of it, perhaps 3x weekly or somesuch.

The company I just joined has two facilities in Missoula, MT. My boss is located there, so I’ll be heading back and forth. I think BOS-SLC-MSO-SLC-BOS will be worth trying. I’m curious as to why B6 would allow an out-of-region airline like Frontier to dictate these moves. That is, if we are to agree that B6 retrenching at PWM and perhaps BTV has to do with Frontier’s moves.
