Amongst commercial pilots - EK is considered one the poorest outfits to work for - and as such droves of experienced Captains have left for greener pastures such as Korean & China over the last 4-5 years. They are now hiring turbo prop pilots with minimum experience to fly large wide bodies airc...Jump to post
Money talks - pay the Capt /FO €1000/600 call out daily pay - problem solved. Approx €2 per pax hit for FR based on full 4 legs.Jump to post
While always a need for a global fleet of 747Fs - due low fuel prices the new name of the game in cargo and pax is - fragmentation. Thinner less traditional routes by smaller frames.
Look out for large orders for 737F & 320F - it's already started with the express carriers in China.

This is what happens when you pay pilots with minimum wages, use third party labour company to be rid of as much benefits as you can, etc. Sometimes pilots even have to pay for their type ratings, so guess what happens to their pilot sources. On the other hand, if you want to be a low cost airline,...Jump to post
Anyone remember when MOL said he woul'nt need two pilots in future and would train the FA's to land in an emergency if the one pilot was incapacitated?
Have at it Micheal.
'High Flight' Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. I won't split hairs with you on the LR/Max10. The point is if the UAE were to market the "Pearl Coast" for example as a destination region rather than two cities - i don't know - stick a Disney half way between the two - whatever. The point is the combined carriers unified out of of a 24hr...Jump to post
So a month ago - it's all systems go and now it's "off the table". I'm going out on a limb here. This could finally be a logical move in tandem with EY. I know folks in the region say "never" but it makes almost too much sense not to. Either a take over of future EY orders or dar...Jump to post
At a guess,777X converted to 787 by EK. According to AviationWeek website Morgan Stanley just issued a caution to Boeing investors citing ME3 exposure on 7X. Based on changing market fundamentals going forward -order completion from gulf carriers unlikely on larger twins. Qatar will not be there. Al...Jump to post
Hopefully Cathay succeeds in Dublin. Read somewhere earlier (CAPA) that 400k Pax fly From Dublin to HKG annuallly. With 4K paddies in the city and perhaps another 1k in Shenzhen, the route will have a strong following I hope. Here's some analysis provide by BlueSwanDaily (part of CAPA) https://blue...Jump to post

Re performance A350. Any issues with 'wet' figures hindering MTOW? On the T7 its about a 10t hit on rwy 28 DUB (13*/1013/zero wind) As we all know it rains a lot in DUB - though not sure if grooved constitutes dry with CX Interestingly enough - 16/28 shows grooved, 10/28 does not - per LH LIDO char...Jump to post
Is DUB even capable of Asian flights aside from Middle East? I thought their runways were too short. DUB RWY 10/28 has a TORA of 2637 M and TODA of 2850 M which is enough for MTOW on the A350-900. Agreed, enough of the beer already. Re performance A350. Any issues with 'wet' figures hindering MTOW?...Jump to post
So a guy flies for a commuter carrier only to build time so he cn get to the 'Big Leagues." Then as a new hire he goes right seat, then 6 months later left seat? Realistically, how competent is he to be in charge of a plane 6 months off the street? No thanks, safety factor just decreased. I wi...Jump to post
How is EK doing on ATH-EWR route with the A380 during off-season months? Too early to tell. The route was launched quickly with a limited lead in compared to other routes according to ATH EK staff. After a couple of months Y was doing about 70%, premium up and down. The summer has been very strong....Jump to post
Having the capability to use it does not mean a pilot is going to try it out in such extreme conditions. In the simulator sometimes okay but on a real flight, you trust your judgement as a pilot and do not leave a difficult landing to the automatics unless there is a reason. Let me turn this around...Jump to post
I've flown every variant of the 744 & 777 amongst many others - 744p,combi,freighter & special freighter. 772,773,77L,77F,77W I can tell you that if the wx was within the FCOM & Co limits - I would take a look with a healthy expectation of a GA. They took a look - and flew the approach w...Jump to post
And as mentioned all points from IN,PAK,BD should have one stop service to the major Canadian metro areas. This can be a achieved by allowing EK to serve those cities at least once a day. The market adjusts to reality - while its working well now for AC, Westjet and EK could eventually launch a coordinated service of WS 787s from YVR and other points etc and feed into EKs system. ALPA & the Teamsters will save the pilot profession for quite some time. Truckers and Uber drivers should take a leaf out of ALPA's book. An interesting piece if information is that all newly rated EK T7 pilots are dual rated on the 787 and its certified on the back on their licenses by the UAE GCAA. While a short transition course would be needed, the commonality between the two twins would be quite straightforward and the training c...Jump to post
EK have been looking at Denver for quite awhile.
According to recent article in WSJ Denver is attracting major west coast corps, specifically Bay Area, to relocate or base many staff there. Housing costs compared to SFO very competitive.
I just don't see ATL for EK yet due QR.
If MCO is not premium heavy and the 2 class planes have no crew rest you could block the seats in First for rest, no? Do you mean block seats in 'J' class? 'F' has CRC and thus redundant. On a 2 class config - of 58 J class approx 10-12would need to be blocked at any one time. Not going to happen. ...Jump to post
