If the 778 is discontinued, A.net will be filled with daily threads asking when the 778 (or 77L) will be brought back. There will also be lengthy debates as to whether the A350 ULR can comfortably operate SFO-DEL, JNB-ATL, and AKL-DOH.
It will be the 757 and MOM all over again.
I will: Pay more to avoid Fly at a less convenient time to me for business & personal arrangements Take an indirect routing In extremis - not fly at all, (there almost always is a way around the problem) If you're willing to go through all that trouble just to avoid a slightly narrower seat, fi...Jump to post

By "LCC model" I mean: point-to-point network, Navitaire/ticketless system, high fleet utilization, singular aircraft type, non-unionized crew, unbundled add-ons. For a brand new airline, they would struggle to compete against established carriers. For an existing airline, it would be mor...Jump to post
I can't remember if it was the last thread or the one before that but EK413 mentioned that QF were considering not renewing leases on the 2 remaining A330's that haven't been refurbished (EBG and EBL). Some more information regarding that in link below http://australianaviation.com.au/2016/1 ... a3...Jump to post
It seems like only yesterday that people on sites such as Ausbt were predicting the fall of QF and rise of VA. sell off the 777s, let DL handle all of the N.Am longhaul DL would have to increase capacity to compensate. VA would have to wait until DL took delivery of the A359 to abandon the TPAC mark...Jump to post
While we're on the topic of cabotage, I have a question:
Jetstar operates NZ domestic flights with VH-registered aircraft. How did they get permission to do this?
Financial history and considerations aside, I don't quite understand the painfully slow, measured cautious approach, and "wow" factor QF is taking in introducing the 789 into service. It's not like they are the launch customer and an inexperienced operator, and surely they have done their...Jump to post

In the age of the 777 and A350, not so much.
This thread is a proof ! Let's say, you pay for some seat for price X, then you pay for a seat that is smaller by about 10% for price X as well. Isn't that paying the same amount for a less service quality/product? I don't see any specific proof that CX is not going to reduce fares. It doesn't make...Jump to post
However, we dislike that service quality is going downwards and yet they are asking for the same price! Do you have any proof? This thread is a proof ! Usually, flight 1 is considered to be the flagship route, though I'm sure there are exceptions. The way I see it, here are the conditions typically required for an aircraft type to be the flagship: 1. There must be at least 10 frames of the aircraft type in the fleet 2. If there are widebodies in th...Jump to post
A word about 1:1 replacements. There has *never* been a 1:1 replacement. The 707 had no 1:1 replacement, nor did the 727, 747, 757, 767, or the 772/77W. There is no 1:1 replacement for the DC-9, DC-10, or MD-11. There is no 1:1 replacement for any of the A300/A310 family. The only 1:1 replacements ...Jump to post

Doesn't this mean all legacy carriers are now just LCCs? I took Transat to Greece from YUL and it was pretty on par with the recent 777 service from AC. If that's the case, why would anyone fly legacy carriers? Maybe consumer intelligence will catch-up, or a downturn in traffic will lead to rising ...Jump to post
After SQ starts SIN-SFO and ICN-LAX, they will no longer send the A380 to LAX, giving LHR the advantage. Sorry to take off-topic, but what will SQ's presence on the US West Coast be? A359 to SFO, then SIN-ICN-LAX on 77W? Is there one I'm missing? SIN-NRT-LAX will remain, but downguaged to a 77W. No...Jump to post

it is impossible with a 777. That's not true at all. A 77L could do this today, full pax load, no problem at all... and that's without the supplemental tanks. 778 should be able to do it with ridiculous ease, and an A359ULR will probably be able to carry a decent load as well. He probably meant it ...Jump to post
