I think the industry standard is that pilots are paid a per diem amount hourly to cover expenses like food. It's not a lot of money hourly but adds up. I flew AA146 BOS-CDG & AA121 CDG-JFK on February 2001. BOS-CDG was on a 763 with the then new three class dark blue interior. CDG-JFK was on a 762 with the blue interiors in J & Y. F had the light brown leather seats with the red center headrests.

I'm honestly shocked the STL base is even still open. It's the only remaining vestige of TWA at AA, although JFK is beginning to look like TWA's JFK operation.

Trans States flew the ATR-42 & ATR-72 out of STL as Trans World Express & American Connection from the 1980's to the mid 2000's without incident.

United didn’t have a base in EWR pre-merger, IIRC.


EWR was a FA base until shortly after 9/11. I also believe it was a narrow body pilot base as well.

It's sad that people feel like this is the only way out. An Emirates FA last year committed suicide jumping out of a 777 with a glass bottle under her chin in Entebbe.

I was a regional FA. I would fly up to 8 legs a day. It's hard to keep track of where you are after awhile.
