I think it would be a reverse current relay (RCR). I have seen them installed on a B-17, Shoo Shoo Baby, and still working on today's C-5. I would guess the RCR is a 1930's design. Not sure if any aircraft in production today is using the same RCR, but it has been out there a long time.

A civilian carrier operating C-5s....bankruptcy. No operator would touch the C-17 with a 10 foot pole. What operator would take one of the most maintenance intensive airframes in the world?

747s are cheap, parts are worldwide, and they fly the wings off them.

Yes it is a C model. The only former A models that belong to active duty are the 2 C models and 1 of the M models. All the other surviving A models belong to the Reserve component.

It would be nice to quit burning money on the Z and W programs, the V-22, and get the K in production ASAP. The K is the real deal.
