Re: OAK Int Flights--Boom to Bust to Boom Plus

It's a shame AS has thus far had zero interest in any attempts to grow at OAK. What used to be 5-6x mainline flights to PDX dropped to 3x Q400 in the recession and has stayed there as AS has tried to move all their traffic through SFO or SJC. Looking back, I assumed it was a swap in capacity as WN ...

Re: OAK Int Flights--Boom to Bust to Boom Plus

All the Europe growth is great, but more comprehensive domestic service would be better. There's a big gap between the steady WN growth and the TATL service, like basic daytime flights to the east coast and legacy service to major hubs (ORD, DFW, ATL, IAH, MIA, etc). It's a shame AS has thus far had...

They use North Field when 12/30 is out of commission for any reason. 12/30 will be repaved this fall, so for a few weeks at least, most traffic will likely be using North Field while widebodies will be using an upgraded taxiway adjacent to 12/30.

It is not called the Shuttle Train Service. Taking BART from Embarcadero is significantly longer to OAK than SFO. The shuttle ride between the airport and station adds about another 15 minutes to a 35 minute trip. A couple misconceptions that I noticed others state about OAK: 1) Oakland has two runways suitable for commercial aircraft: 30 & 28L. I've been on jets that landed on 28L in the past for various reasons. The runway length for 28L is similar to MDW which has no problems with a large volume. 2) F...

WN also has far more seats and frequency to all of California's major airports. It'd take 10-20 years of buildup for AS to match that. Hopefully they'll grow to become a legitimate competitor but WN is likely to remain dominant for intrastate flying for the near-mid term future.
