Yesterday a Delta B744 landed in MSP for fueling. DTWs longest runway is being worked on for another week. She had to takeoff empty and refuel before continuing back to Shanghai. Was also N662US the oldest Delta 744. Also not sure if this been mentioned yet but MSP-AMS winter season will be a KLM B...

Thanks for the YOY post. For MSP, this is in part to the cutting of 2x daily MKE flights, for the most part. Really, nothing else impacting here. But, that said, there hasn't been growth either. Between DL and WN there is an average of 7 mainlines a day. IMO that market is tapped out. I don't disag...

If Hawaii is announced on Monday, will it come after the extension is released? Extensions are usually available by 5-6AM central. Would seem odd for it to just appear. I could see them announcing it separately and maybe not this Monday, specifically.

It seems pretty clear WN is going to only expand internationally and to/from CA. At least those markets seem to be the current growth strategy. The percentage of the flying public that has an option to fly SY is minuscule, even for those at MSP. They're simply not an option except for a select few routes. Their "value" is extremely limited and is dwarfed by the value the public sees in G4. I'd hardly consider 900K enplanements at...

Someone with good skills should create the route map of SY/WN. Eliminate DFW for DAL. Eliminate any airports SY flies to which WN does not (maybe move it to something close - i.e. JFK to LGA). It would look nice. Why on Earth would WN have any interest in acquiring a leisure & charter-orientate...

What happens to the approx. 25-40 flights per day by SY out of MSP (depending on time of year)? If many or even some go away, DL will raise fares. SY is good competition to DL. SY may be good competition to DL at MSP but it isn't successful in numbers. It doesn't even make the top 5 operating carri...

Calling it now: merger (buy out) with (by) Southwest within the next 10 years. I think SY is too small to be bought out. Is MSP gate constrained. I think that might be the only thing worth having that justifies the headache of a merger. Someone with good skills should create the route map of SY/WN....

Where do we see SY expanding beyond MSP? Will their markets be places like DSM, FAR, etc. in the Midwest or do they go for larger cities lacking good flights to places like Florida and LAS, for example?

I have some doubts about MSP-LAS having a second flight. Would be nice to have at least a permanent, year-round daily on WN. Today, 8/14, has 10 flights between DL, SY, NK. And, I believe NK adds a second over the winter months. Not sure on the other carriers. Tough to say all the carriers on this r...

with DFW being the bridge between the two. Random. Why would they do that there, when they can use one of their actual hubs (e.g. MSP)? This would be interesting between LAX-MSP, given most flights are 757s on this route, and in some cases continue to Hawaii (MSP-LAX-OGG/HNL-LAX-MSP, for example).

I'm not so sure Mexico and the Caribbean are overserved, especially during Spring Break. Flew to CUN last March on a packed A333 on DL. From what I heard from friends, SY was packed to CUN as well.

In a little over two weeks, Southwest will publish its schedule for April and May. What might they add/subtract this round?
Spring break seasonal flights will drop off for sure.

Guesses or actual rumors?

MSP actually has improved in the number of competitive routes, especially since NK and WN have arrived. It probably takes time. Also, look at AA growing some of its footprint here (albeit losing LAX soon). Those, along with SY, have created much better competition than we ever saw during the NW days...

Southwest will have room to expand at LAX after Terminal 1 renovations at LAX are completed next year, and Southwest could add nonstop service to LAX from MSP since Southwest is still growing at LAX and since demand for MSP-LAX flights has significantly increased during the last 5 years. Years away...
