Re: Shooting the breeze with a WN pilot about Hawaii

Now if Spirit or Frontier were to start Hawaii, that would be another story. Those are ULCCs, something that so far is unknown to Hawaii. It's something that Hawaiian has no experience dealing with. They'd be totally blown out of the market. Not saying they can't adapt, after all the legacies on th...

Re: Baggage on short connections - how do they handle it?

At Delta, bags with short connection times will have "HOT" pronted on the tag. There are also numbers printed next to each connection airport code., 1-6 When the tags are created, load planners will send loadsheets to ALAs which tells us where each bag goes. In the bagroom, bags will get l...

Re: Small airports with 24 hour commercial ops

Back in the early 2000s, SEA was more or less 24 hours. HP had a 0240 arrival from LAS which turned for PHX at 0450. Some international departures between 0130 and 0300. From LAS, we had a bunch of departures from 2240 to 0150 that arrived between 0430-0600 in the east and 0200-0330 in the west. HP ...

I was the oddball, I was always excited to see them come in. A319s and A320s aren't all that interesting from an enthusiast standpoint. And what exactly is so interesting about an MD80? I've appreciated others responses to this. I'd say an MD-80 is interesting to me in the same way that a 747 might...

Premium Economy uses the same first class seat found on 737s and A32x that have the new seat. Only differences are is PE has a legrest that folds out and you get a similar service that business gets, including the use of the Bose noise cancelling headphones.

Per Deltanet, RDU and AUS will be growing, especially AUS as it seems that management believes DFW is impenetrable. Strange DL would pick DFW over AUS as the test market for the Cseries if this is the case. DFW is just a spoke from LGA. DFW is just a a logical place as the C-Series was bought to di...

Re: Will anyone pickup the JetBlue E190s?

This is similar to the Delta MD-90 situation. DL was an OEM customer of the M90 type with a new build fleet and maintenance regime. AA, via US, is a full OEM E-190 new build customer with all the skills built up. If they can get a fleet of them dirt cheap, it may change the equation for them. They ...

Turnaround is tight (95 minutes) but doable. Only 161 seats to dress if they’re sending the ULR (253 on a normal A350), and fuelling would be thirty minutes tops. I wouldn't look too much into that. Expect to see those frequency changes flip flop in the spring.

A lot of AA PHL cuts in January. Some just a carry over from last year, some not. Not all that surprising. But I still don't understand less than daily flights on PHL-DEN/SEA. I think PHL-SEA operated less than daily 2 or 3 months the last 2 winters. Still interesting since they operate up to 3 dai...

CLT-TUS going away next year is unfortunate, but not unexpected. I just don't think AA could get enough connecting traffic from TUS flowing to CLT when they have DFW and ORD to fill that void. So far AA has failed to make JFK and now CLT work from TUS. I'd love to see DL or B6 offer a seasonal JFK ...

Re: Newbie, question regarding repositioning flights

Not due to mechanical issues, but NZ did a one-off PDX-AKL flight, it was a new delivery from Boeing & instead of flying it empty for 14 hours, they took an entire planeload of passengers. A 744. UA did a similar thing with their first 789 - went PAE/SEA, then loaded up with paying pax and flew...

Delta announced the A359 coming to SEA I believe when they announced they were dumping SEA-HKG and adding MSP-ICN. That was well before JL announced they were returning to SEA.

Re: Forbes' Dan Reed: "JetBlue is For Sale!"

What is JetBlue today? A small southwest? A legacy wannabe? An ULCC in the making? The next Alaska? This is the internal struggle. This is not a net fodder. It is very real. They don’t know what they want to be. With the plan they've laid out, The Next Alaska is the best they have come up with. A m...

Perhaps you should research the average depths of Mobile and Chesapeake Bays versus that of Puget Sound.

Elksund Tunnel is 942 feet below the water surface.

Re: New airport for Seattle-Tacoma Region

No thanks... I don't want any planes flying over my head. Also, Surely the Puget Sound is too deep for a tunnel. I'm sure the same thing was said when they built the Chesapeake Bay bridge and tunnel as well as the Mobile Bay tunnel. Ummm no. The Puget sound is around 900'/280m deep on average with ...
