No data of retirement about specific aircraft could be retrieved. First, Qantas will retire the sole oddball 747 configured (OEB , ex-OZ , could be perfectly this year), then the 3 RR-powered last standard 747-438 and finally the 6 -ER. I think withdrawn dates could be accelerated or postponed , de...Jump to post

As many know, Qantas has marked 2020 as the final year for their 747s. This is both an historic and significant date as the Qantas 747 is an aviation icon that holds a special place in many people’s hearts. I created this thread to gather and share information about their retirement and the Qantas 7...Jump to post
Hi, Long time reader but first time posting. RE QF747 retirement, Didn't they announce a life extension earlier this year at the investor on 4 aircraft until next year iirc? I do see their point about OEI and OJT, it will be interesting so see what comes of it. Regarding the QF B744 flights, it can...Jump to post
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how much bigger the 747 feels than the 777 in terms of cabin width and height? Just curious for when the QF 747s leave pretty soon Worlds apart. It's bigger cabin width is significant as is the lesser wall curvature of the 744 cf. the 777. I flew on a QF 744 ...Jump to post
Can anyone explain QF12 ‘s current flight path?? I'll preface this by saying that I don't work in the New York area, so I can only speculate based on what I know about their flows. It looks to me that the line of weather moving through the Midwest definitely played a factor. They may have been requ...Jump to post
It only operated during Dec/Jan during peak period I used to see it available every tuesday this upcoming august, but it is no longer there. It was my understanding they operated it every tuesday to swap out the bne 747. QF11/12 ex SYD is usually a 744 on Tuesdays to cover A380 maintenance, and it ...Jump to post
Does anyone know if the weekly QF18 LAX-SYD has been terminated? 8+ hours in a all-Y 230seat A321Neo? No thanks. I'll believe this one when I see it!
I don’t think 18 hours in a 9 abreast QF dreamliner is any better.
Other than 4 inches more legroom.
The 787 trolling is getting old IMHO.

I dont think QF is looking to put 744s on new routes. Right now they need 8 to run syd-sfo, syd-nrt, syd-jnb, and syd-scl, which is why they want to keep js, jt, and ju. The 789s have only freed up two frames, and QF only wants to keep them to help with Asia capacity.Jump to post

Not really aviation related but hey let's hope it keeps driving up American tourists to Australia. Well played Tourism Australia! https://twitter.com/Australia/status/960315894550364162 It played a couple of times during Super Bowl, but I was watching in Australia so don’t know if it featured in th...Jump to post
Ive noticed a couple evening departures coupled with the daily qf 747 morning departure from BNE to LAX. Has it always been this way or is this a peak season operation? Are you sure? There is an evening SYD-LAX 2-3 weekly operating for the peak season with a 744. Nothing extra ex BNE AFAIK. I know ...Jump to post
That would explain why they haven't announced another route (existing) for the second frame that will be freed up from MEL-DXB-LHR Was the 380 reconfigure to occurs in FY19 or Calendar19? That’s going to be a significant period out of service for that too. Looking forward to hearing the new route r...Jump to post

Honestly I dont think Qantas cares about delays. Theyre happy running a super tight, cost-efficient operation to the US despite constant delays because whose going to choose United over Qantas? Or American? Brand-wise you cant get any worse than the US big three. And VA cant match capacity/route cho...Jump to post

Will qantas get the A350? Nobody knows! QF is seeking proposals from both Airbus & Boeing, AFAIK neither has been finalised let alone a decision made. Gemuser Althogh no decisions have been made, the 777x is the plane to beat. QF has been leaning towards it given its better economics. However a...Jump to post

Anyone know why qantas never repaints the engines on their 747 non ERs? They’re all a faded grey/white color. The GE’s which are the ER’s and oddball OEB have white cowlings and always have while the RR birds always had grey cowlings, no idea why but it’s always been like that. If you look at old p...Jump to post

I agree with ben175 - something needs to be done about it because it means that QF16 (BNE) and QF94 (MEL) are continually also late... often by more than an hour. Hopefully once 787 services come online for MEL and BNE it will allow more flexibility. These days be very tough to get slots to line up...Jump to post
