Re: Can we discuss the IAM?

I’d suggest you avail yourself to some of the more labor focused forums and see what the LUS employees have to say about the IAM or UA employees with all the contracting out and this new United Ground Expresss subsidiary (IAM collects dues from them as well). Read a bit about their related (but sep...

Re: Can we discuss the IAM?

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) announced that the National Mediation Board (NMB) certified the union as the bargaining representative for the Fleet and Passenger Service class and craft at McGee Air Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Alaska Air Group...

Re: Can we discuss the IAM?

They are now representing the employees of United Ground Express and McGee Air Services. The contracts are available online and are very unimpressive and the employees are locked into 10 year agreements with wages that don't keep up with most states' minimum wage plans over the life of the contract...

Re: Regarding AA's JFK-Zurich Route Ending (AA 64/AA65)

American Airlines has served the following markets in Europe nonstop from JFK at one time or another, since the original 1987 opening of JFK as a TATL gateway: BRU (dropped in 2009?) BRU ended 11/2012 and operated with a 757 at the very end. https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/159583/...

Re: El Al Airlines posts deepening losses as market share shrinks

In my judgement as an American Jew who has flown LY extensively and works in the industry the leadership at LY has largely been complacent and often lack industry experience (outside of LY). Obviously given the size, scale and composition of their network LY will never be among the most profitable c...

Re: [Speculation] What could AA do with a A321neoLR in the A321T 102 seat config?

How much of the $800m is profit? Just throwing the number out without knowing the profit margin does not tell anyone the facts. Well common sense says not much. Cargo is heavy, weight burns fuel, fuel is the number one expense. So why do airlines bother with cargo if it does not make much profit? W...

Re: [Speculation] What could AA do with a A321neoLR in the A321T 102 seat config?

Cargo is a major contributor to AA's bottom line. I've heard that the -LR extra fuel tanks cut into the cargo hold space. AA carries a lot of belly freight along with heavy bag loads and often "cubes-out" in Latin America and the Caribbean, so the -LR doesn't strike me as the right fit fo...

Re: Arrivals Lounges

LX has one in ZRH, plus the LH Welcome Lounge in FRA. The answer is that there really isn’t a competitive need to do so outside of London and most passengers want to proceed out of the airport and will shower and freshen up at home/hotel/etc. Why spend the CapEX, utilize scarce expensive airport spa...

Re: Will AS keep a VX heritage livery?

How much "Heritage" does VX have? ..... None I would say. The “heritage” context and reference is to the carrier some company employees began their careers at more than anything else. If you review the press releases and statements both the combined AA and independent US Airways put out a...

Re: AA trial of mainline in New England

When I was at the AA gate boarding Saturday for ORD, the gate adjacent was the A321 to LAX. So that trial has apparently already started. I do notice a huge difference between the A321s acquired via US and those AA bought new. Quite a difference (the AA-purchased ones much nicer). Unless you were i...

Re: American Airlines to close St. Louis pilot base in September 2018

DId their TW seniority carry over? It didn’t for the flight attendants who went to the bottom of the AA seniority list. The only thing their TW seniority counted for was the order in which they were added to AA’s list. TWA F/A's did retain seniority for pay and vacation time. They sure did NOT. htt...
