Delta has just announced daily non stop service to MSP starting on May 28 utilizing A319 aircraft.
Jump to postIs Hanscom the norm for visiting professional teams? I realize there are no security issues and Atlas also does military charters but it seems to be a long bus ride to Foxborough and I was under the impression that PVD accommodated the NFL teams heading to Gillette? How about the MLB, NHL and NBA te...
Jump to postLooks like the 737-900 is in place through the end of February when it reverts back to an A319 with a 6 AM departure in March.
Jump to postFigured it was too good to be true, have learned not to pay much attention to airline flight schedules more than a couple of months in the future especially during a pandemic.
Jump to postTalked to one of the pilots. Full load with over 200 soldiers and gear on the departure from PWM, hope the 7200' runway can handle it!
Jump to postThought it might be too good to be true which is why I stated it "appears" : ) Will some of it come to fruition?
Jump to postIt appears that American Airlines is really stepping up their service between PWM and PHL starting on November 4th. There will be 6 daily departures from Portland with 2 mainline (A319) aircraft at 5:30AM and 5:55PM and the flights continue beyond February so it's not a holiday push. Mainline servic...
Jump to postI agree. MKE to MIA is just a little shy of the distance between PWM and MIA which is also utilizing the EMB 175. Elite Airways has used the CRJ 200 between PWM and Melbourne and now Vero Beach for a while now and that has to be an even more uncomfortable flight due to it's smaller size.
Jump to postThe article above shows PWM service to MIA is on a EMB 175, did you find something else showing a mainline aircraft?
Jump to postAny new market during the pandemic is a positive and Miami has been on PWM's wish list for some time. Would have preferred mainline service similar to the DFW flights but I'll take it and I hope it's successful.
Jump to postThere were pre virus rumors of the possibility of FLL but not MIA, must have been PVD.
Jump to postIt appears that American's seasonal service between PWM and DFW is still happening on Saturdays.
Jump to postThe salt air would be a deterrent. I think your idea has merit due to Brunswick having twin 8000' runways, one is permanently closed which would be perfect for aircraft parking until late October. Fex180, I agree with your thoughts on PWM's summer flights and new service to MSP and DFW but the passe...
Jump to postGreat idea. When did Brunswick's runway grow an additional 1000 feet?
Jump to postLooks great and an ingenious way to unify the concourse into one continuous floor plan while eliminating the separate gate extension. The exterior design also compliments the Vermont rustic theme very well.
Jump to post^ Of their 10 focus cities, Miami is the only one that makes sense due to no competition with any current PWM airline. Can't see Frontier ruffling Delta's feathers and adding service to ATL. Las Vegas would be interesting but it may be outside of the comfort level when it comes to the distance and I...
Jump to postPWM's net gain will only be two jetways (12 and 14) and they will be connected to the terminal by an enclosed elevated corridor, final design and costs are still being determined. The current Gate 11 jetway is being retired and replaced with a new one for a grand total of 12 jetways along with an ad...
Jump to postDenver, Minneapolis, Dallas/Fort Worth and now Nashville, the new seasonal options out of PWM continue to improve!
Jump to postMaybe WN should look at some direct Florida options from Portland during the winter months and bypass BWI except for the early morning flight to allow for hub connections. Was announced yesterday that PWM has refinanced it's outstanding bonds and has freed up around $15 million dollars to construct ...
Jump to postThanks for all of the data VS4ever and I never realized that Frontier used the 230 seat A321 aircraft exclusively to Fort Myers and sometimes to Orlando. I thought that the Frontier's 186 seat A320 and was the largest aircraft that served PWM along with Delta's 157 seat version to ATL. Also noticed ...
Jump to postPortland's tourist season has considerably expanded from the traditional three summer months. PWM's passenger counts are very healthy from mid May through mid October with the slow months being December through March which is similar to most northern tier airports of a similar size. United is servin...
Jump to postBTV's needs to review the headings on their site unless I'm missing something. Comparing September 2019 with September 2019 must be a typo? So do you think MHT will end up with around 1.7 million total passengers to BTV's potential 1.4 million for 2019? The gap is definitely shrinking between the two.
Jump to postThanks for the impressive historical background and it looks like HVN is poised for additional service which should eventually lead to an expanded terminal and infrastructure improvements. Baby steps!
Jump to post^ Agree, but during that 8 year period PWM's total passenger count never dipped lower than 95,000 from the 2008 peak which is acceptable during a down period for many airports across the country. December through April has always been a lean stretch for Maine in general and I don't see anything on t...
Jump to postI wish HVN well and agree that it is very underserved. Am surprise to learn that the airport used to have 737 service heading west on a 5600' runway during the winter months with a tree in the way. I guess the 737 requires less runway than other narrow body mainline aircraft and it must have been th...
Jump to postSo what will that now give HVN for usable runway length for takeoffs in each direction?
Jump to postI'm a little surprised by Sun Country's entry into the Portland market, thought they might serve Manchester or possibly Bangor due to the availability of counter and gate space. Looks like Maine's draw as a tourist destination continues to flourish and PWM's 9 airlines and 22 non stop destinations (...
Jump to postIt appears that JetBlue is going to serve PWM for another summer season. Flights will commence on May 21 with only 2 E190 daily which is a decrease from this past summer and maybe a third flight will be added during July and August? There are also several Cape Air flights listed as options to help p...
Jump to postPWM's numbers are out for July, August and September. Down 9531 passengers for July and August with a gain of 4083 for September. Portland is still up 65,905 year to date compared to 2018.
Jump to postPortsmouth is in an ideal spot for options which at times includes choices out of it's own airport. Personally, I think Portland is very well situated and easy to get to in either direction. Portsmouth residents driving north to utilize Portland is probably limited but I do think that a circle from ...
Jump to postLooks like OGG is planning to extend it's main runway to 8530' in the future to allow for consistent full loads. I feel much better about PWM's runway situation now and realize there will probably never be a need to lengthen it due to the capabilities of modern aircraft and limitations to the Portla...
Jump to postNot very attractive but they serve the intended purpose in addition to being cost effective.
Jump to postFrom a quick glance at the plans in the video, looks like the new TSA checkpoint will be added to the right portion of the terminal that is currently part of the apron. Then BTV will be able to remove the temporary container connector that I'm guessing is up and running now? PWM just built a white p...
Jump to postThanks for your time and effort uconn, my earlier PWM estimates were almost identical to your numbers.
Jump to postDelta 9894 from PWM just landed in Edinburgh 5 minutes early. Would love to know how much fuel was remaining.
Jump to postWell done and easy to decipher. BDL has a lot of 737-800 activity. When you research PWM, don't forget to add Delta's new non stop international service to Edinburgh : )
Jump to postThe broken 757 was parked near the deicing pads this morning with the right engine shell removed and hooked up to a GPU.
Jump to post^ Wow, that's a 3700 mile flight to Frankfort. I'll never complain about runway length again!
Jump to posthopper, you were accurate. I have a friend who lives near the airport who told me he thought it was a 767 this morning. And like an idiot, I ran out to take photos prior to thinking about the odds!
Jump to postAppreciate the wisdom guys, now I feel better about PWM's runway and am pleased that 2 airlines are serving (seasonal) Denver. PVDspotting, do you remember the furthest destination from PVD prior to the runway extension and what aircraft were used?
Jump to postThanks for the update EK and you were correct airlineworker. So I learned today that a fairly loaded (pax and fuel) 757 can travel 3000 miles to Edinburgh from PWM utilizing a 7200 foot runway. Did I miss anything guys, does it need to refuel in Ireland or Iceland in order to make it? Maybe it's lig...
Jump to postThanks hopper, I need a better spotter connection.
Jump to postMy bad, just got back from the airport and it's just a regular 757-200. My spotter source gave me bad information and I got caught up in the excitement!
Jump to postWas just told that the diverted aircraft is actually a 767-300 ER and I'm on my way out the door to take a look at it!
Jump to postSo what happens to the Edinburgh flight that was diverted to PWM? Will it be able to continue on to EDI this morning from Portland? Can a fully loaded 757 to Scotland take off from PWM's 7200' runway? Will customs need to be brought in to clear the aircraft again? Do the passengers sleep in the term...
Jump to postThanks uconn, nice snapshot of all of New England's busiest. I included JetBlue's 3 daily E190 flights in PWM's mainline count which is why I had 21 to your 18. Have been told that an aircraft with at least 100 seats falls into the mainline category even though the E190 is technically a regional jet...
Jump to postWould be also interesting if you could show the recent comparison between MHT and BTV when you get some free time!
Jump to post^ Thanks, and all accomplished with only three primary runways at different headings unlike ATL with 5 major runways all perfectly aligned east/west. Must be an air controller's nightmare working in Boston, especially keeping track of all of the taxiways and aprons during winter operations.
Jump to postNice research uconn, didn't realize the gap between BDL and PVD was that large. Am also surprised that PVD only had 9 more departures than PWM. BOS must be off the charts and I would guess over 400 mainline flights daily.
Jump to post21 mainline departures today from PWM to 11 different destinations. Portland has been averaging between 17-22 mainline aircraft and over 50 flights a day during the current peak season which is a nice improvement from few years ago. I know, BOS accomplishes the same amount of activity in a hour and ...
