I was at DTW a few days ago on a layover (5 hrs) in the new McNamara terminal....gorgeous terminal by the way...

I noticed that half of the planes, including mine, were backed out of the gate using their reverse thrusters...why is this? It was kinda cool!

We love playing tricks on the "newbies"... A new guy was working a DC10 with me. After the -10 pulled in, I said we need to get an air sample from the engines and then bring it to the captain...so I handed him a huge trash bag, and said hold it behind the engines before they completely stop spinning...

On the part of the tail facing the forward part of the plane, it is not painted, there's a silver strip running down the edge of the entire vertical stablizer. What is this for? I notice that just about every single airliner has it...

Funny you bring this up, I was in PHX two days ago and HPExpress does that with the jetways, not sure if its a regular thing, but the jetway lead to stairs, then a mat all the way to the dash 8.  Smile

I know that sound you're talking about, and like the other's have said, the DC10's have a very distinct growl when you take off, but you have to sit forward of the engine to hear it in the plane. But that 767 sound is awesome!

SJCguy is right...airlines will laugh at you if you say you want summer employment. It takes almost a full summer (3 months) to be trained and start "on your own" at an airline...
